Notified last night that the RTIC coolers are beginning to ship...they were advertising free 2 day shipping when I placed my preorder

I'll update when I get shipping notification for my order

Used mine in the OBX all last week for a bachelor party. Surfed every day and hung out on the beach with cold beers. Would have been a total bust if not for the ol' Yeti! ;)

Look in the buy/sell section for my sale of a YETI 45 in excellent condition.

So here's my input based on hours of research:

Pelican has been making ice chests/coolers since 1970's. They're tests show that they'll keep your stuff cold/frozen for up to 10 days. Yeti started making coolers in 2006. They used the technology that Pelican has been using for years, found a way to make it a little cheaper, lesser quality than the Pelican, but significantly more expensive. I've found the Pelican in various places including Costco for $150+ cheaper than the equivalent size Yeti. I think you would get the best bang for your buck with the Pelican. Now, some of the folks I work with have had some experience with the Grizzly coolers, and they claim to be very good, and they are a fraction of the cost of a Yeti, at least where I live anyway. For me, I lean to the Pelican because they've been making these types of products since the 70's. We use Pelican cases and such in the fire dept I work for and they hold up to brutal beatings very well. I can only imagine the coolers are equally if not better quality.

I have 2 Yeti's. One I have used and abused for years. The other is my daily lunch box.
I use old milk containers and freeze them. Put them in the cooler the night before to cool it down. I also don't use ice cubes, I use reusable plastic ice blocks. Two advantages. One the ice doesn't melt to water and make a mess in cooler. Second is if I was in a bad situation I could drink the water inside the containers. image.jpg

Anyone know if the Pelican 65 will come up above the bed rails on a taco? Wondering if I can use one under a tonneau.

And I think the Pelican is several inches taller. Hmm.

anything over an inch taller will definitely not fit, well depends on the cover, mine is more of the low profile

The pelican 65 height was the problem when I was looking into them. My grizzly fits perfect under my tonneau though.

Used my new Pelican 45 for the 1st time starting last Thursday morning. Weather has been cooler here in SD 60's to 80's. Put two slabs of block ice at the bottom and 20 beers, 6 steaks, bottle of jack and assorted snacks and sides. As of this morning there isn't anything left in the cooler food wise, but we still have frigid water and 2 nice size pieces of ice floating around. Cooler was pre chilled and everything that went into it was frozen or cold ahead of time. We refilled beer on two occasions with cold from the supermarket beers. And it was opened a lot to grab drinks out over the weekend.

Overall very happy with how this Pelican handles. I just wanted something that would work for 3-4 days extended weekends. This will be primarily used for camping food with block ice, beers will go in a normal cooler.

Owned 2 yetis and not impressed by either. I live in Houston and the ice melts in a day if in direct sunlight

Cut a old solar shade and put that on the lid. Should at least reflect a lot of that heat away.
