How much more would you pay for a diesel Tacoma compared to a V6 gasoline Tacoma?

I used to be big into the idea of a diesel Tacoma, but I've changed my mind lately. I wouldn't pay much of a premium for one, because the savings from the higher MPG would take years to benefit me.

If I was that worried about paying for gas, I would be driving a Civic, Impreza, etc...

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
    Oh I am planning too.
Claiming that you don't need low end torque is such a loser talk. The only people who say this are those who bought some pos car and don't want to admit it.
I bet that's what owners of steam cars said when first diesel was out on the market. Let me guess you bought 2016.
Regardless this guy chirped tires that's how much torque he has in a truck. Can't beat that.

Like buying a 2ng gen Tacoma like you. So what does that mean you drive? A pos? No, I have not purchased a 2016, (yet). I will wait till supply is ample at the dealers.

I am just practical in what I drive. The 06 Tacoma that I just recently sold worked just fine for what I do. As far as the low end torque, imo, the 4.0 did just fine for what I ask of it. When I get a 2016 , I expect it will meet my needs also. The one test drive I have done, the vehicle seems ok.

By all means, go buy a pickup of whatever size with a diesel you want. Enjoy it. You, not knowing what my demands are for a vehicle makes most of your statement mute. You shouldn't judge people you don't know. It takes away any credibility you may have had.

I may be overstating the drop... I did read it somewhere, I just cannot locate the article at the moment. The fact remains that it will be a dramatic drop in Torque and MPG. That is a given.

I work in the diesel and gasoline injector business and have experience with Dnox, Direct injection, common rail injection and unit injection. Trust me it is going to be very ugly...

Here is ones source that states 10 - 20% drop: http://www.king5.com/story/money/co...sel-drivers-will-see-10-20-mpg-drop/72647040/

    Another guesses 20 - 25% drop: https://www.quora.com/What-performa...ng-recall-related-to-the-VW-emissions-scandal

All just guesses at this point.... Regardless it isn't going to be pretty.

20-25% would be quite substantial. I figure most folks are assuming 10-ish% and are ok with that because they're getting ridiculous MPGs already. But damn. 20-25% drop in a Tacoma would be enough for me to go back to that Ford dealership.
