I agree. My trainer has educated me on the e-collar use.
I'm leaning toward the Garmin Pro 550.

I have one of the first Garmin Astro 220s with DC30 collars. Never let the hounds out without one. I'd like to upgrade to the 320 or Alpha, but for now what I have works.

+1 on the use of an E Collar.

Yup, these are hog dogs and those vests have saved lives. We are using garmin tracking systems and I have the DC50 collars. My friends brown dog, Red, has a DC40 on. These collars have saved a lot of time and brought home dogs that other wise may have gone missing. Thru the years ive lost a couple of dogs without tracking systems and we have also lost dogs with the 220/dc30 & 40. Infact, all those collars of the dc30 went missing on dogs, most of the time they get picked up and returned without the collars. My brothers old friend stole the 220 and the 320 came off cabelas during black friday.
I dont even know where to begin on how useful the collars can be. My boy blue is one of those dogs who wont stop hunting till he catches. He's gone 5 miles on me and still caught.
I want to invest in a t15 to train my dogs. Most of my dogs cry/bark in the truck driving past other dogs or cattle. Some dogs are also attracted to cattle, some of ours will go and work the cattle instead of hunting. I have a german shepherd/catahoula that gets too excited when theyre pursuing. She just ends up cry barking while giving chase. She's one I want to use the collar on. Another reason why I want a t15 is to try train them to stay short range.

These garmin tracking systems are a very valuable asset when we go hunting. The only thing is, in thick forest or deep valleys, they may not catch. I hunt almost every weekend and some times I hunt 2-3 times a week. There's been two times in this past year where I had to go retrieve my dog off a cliff and in a hole, that I otherwise wouldnt have found without the collars.

The TT15 with the addition of the Russian Sats is fantastic. GLONASS really helps in the North where the American Nav Sats are thin. I have not lost reception yet no matter how thick the canopy cover is or terrain. The only issue I worry about is that I hunt right on the Canadian Border sometimes 100 yards away. Isn't like there are any signs or notice that you cross into Canada around that area it is extremely remote. With the Alpha it uses the same frequency that Canada uses for Emergency Services so Garmin's answer to the problem for now is that if you cross into Canada it will turn it into a $800 useless brick. Not a good solution to the problem IMO! Leave Saturday to hunt ruff grouse there and will give the border a pretty good cushion.

I normally use the vibration feature if I use it but for trash breaking and avoidance of porkies, wolves etc. will use stim and with the older dog it was very effective. He is now deaf and the vibrate mode is still effective to get his attention but I've retired him from hunting this year.

Here's the pics from our last camping trip. It was in the central CA coast near Big Basin. It got a little colder than we expected at night so we bundled him up near the fire.

It gets pretty ridiculous. The group I went with are all in their early 20's with no kids so my dog by default gets pampered 24/7.
