People have reported mpg gains with The hilux model, where as I've heard of problems with the airflow not seperating the dust and water as well as it should. The theory is the scoop isn't large enough for the body and you develop back pressure in the body, which slows the air entering it.

We have a few dozen of the SS135MODR en route. They have finally given us an ETA of 10/28. We need them for just a day to prep for the 2nd Gen Tacoma (template, tube, etc.) at which point they will be ready to head home for a group buy. Once we confirm the ETA (like 1 week prior), we'll start the group buy and have it open for 1 week. In the meantime, we have a limited number of SS135MODR's and those are at regular price ($335)

Sure. If you want it done sooner than later, price is the normal $335 + install (call shop for install quote). If you wait for the group buy you'll save a few bucks, install price won't change either way.

Safari's engineers are using new flow bench data and with that they derived the larger size. They measured resistance through the factory intake/air cleaner and built a snorkel that not only matched that, but had 50% more airflow to accomodate superchargers, exhaust and tuned motors. Poor timing imo as Toyota discontinued the popular TRD Supercharger but they were deep into R&D and production scheduling before Toyota announced that.

Furthermore, we have plenty of customers running our SS135MOD (modified snorkel, now called SS135MODR) on SC'd trucks including the Expedition Overland 2nd Gen Tacoma I drove down to Panama, zero airflow issues i.e. no performance problems, no rich run conditions or fuel trim discrepancies. Not to say a larger snorkel won't open up the airflow for the SC in a positive way... just that there isn't a noted running issue with the SS135MODR (was SS135MOD)

Correct, all of the SS135MODR include the template, tube, etc. We will continue to offer them until they no longer appeal to customers. We've had many customers prefer the look of the MODR versus the application specific V-Spec model that will be arriving from Australia later this year (we hope), at that I expect to have them in stock for quite some time. :D

I am no way an expert on snorkels I simply use my common sense and the sense of sight tells me it looks like Safari followed suite with Airflow with the larger diameter tubing and air dam. Also, the claims that were made that the Airflow is crap, is crap, the only reason I responded to this claim is because I have a Airflow and the person who claimed all this had me concerned so I checked out my snorkel and I don't have any of the problems he listed in his rant on Airflow. I could have went with any snorkel the reason I went with Airflow is because it was made for our trucks just like the new Safari no major mods needed. I am not putting down any other snorkel and I am in no way marketing Airflow I get nothing out of this but telling the truth about my experience with my Airflow snorkel and what I observed Safari's new snorkel looks like.

@cruiseroutfit I would like to get in on that group buy for the SS135MODR. I live in Vancouver, Canada would ship any other that UPS as they cost the most coming over the border like USPS i read few pages back.

We don't have the details sorted on the group buy. I'd love to say I did but we are still waiting to find out when Safari will have enough of them in the US to allow us to accommodate a group buy. In the meantime we are getting 2-3 at a time on our incoming shipments and those are just enough to fulfill regular stock orders from customers (reg. price). We have 20+ on order, I don't have an ETA on when we will see them. We can ship UPS or USPS, no problem either way. If you can be patient on the group buy I'll get details posted as soon as we have verified stock, if you need it sooner I think we have two on the shelf right now.

This is why a lot of vendors don't like doing groupbuys. He already said he is awaiting shipping confirmation and will let us know towards the end of October.

I want to give up on it as well; however, I'm due for a smog check soon and in CA I won't pass the smog check with my AFE Intake. I'll have to put the factory air filter back in. If I'm going to do that, might as well have the snorkel installed at the same time...If that ever happens before the 2nd Gen Tacoma becomes a relic.

They will never be a relic. Stop looking at all the turd gen post. 2 gens are finally getting tons of aftermarket parts. The last few yrs they have exploded. Im looking forward to the next few yrs. Im sure we will see sas kits and much more. As there us millions of 2 gens out there.

That was more of diss towards ARB for dragging their feet in getting this to the market.

Personally, I don't ever plan on selling my Taco. Unless I completely trash it or total it by then, it's going to be a family heirloom.

Diss Safari, not ARB. Safari is the company full of marketing genius that gave the product to ARB last year at SEMA and couldn't get their operational ducks in a row for over a year to get the thing produced and out the door by SEMA the following year. ARB is the company that got stuck in the middle.

Thank you for clearing that up. I wasn't aware of that.
