Picked up a TRD catback exhaust and threw it on. Install took 20 min by myself no ramp or jacks (Truck has a 3" lift). Noticed a bit better pick up when accelerating from a stop or passing. The sound is deeper and more sporty but not douchy.. Just the right balance for me. Uploaded a video on YouTube with the before and after sound tests. Shot it with an iPhone so my apologies for the sound quality. External speakers really show the difference with the deep base notes better than the built in speakers on a smart phone or laptop. http://youtu.be/_jgJr2HYe6M

I just put one on as well. Really like the seat of the pants improvement so far.

Does it actually do anything other than a different resonator? For a real hp increase wouldn't you need to improve the intake?

Your not going to notice any significant gains in hp.This exhaust has been discussed in many other threads. It's been discussed with intake, header's etc.to get added performance etc.

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
Correct gimmeajo it does nothing to improve actual performance, they are experiencing the "placebo effect". It does sound great and looks great. I have one myself and want so much to believe it makes my truck more powerful and more responsive - but it actually just makes my truck sound like it is all those things while in reality it is just the same as before.

For the low price and easy DIY install it's totally worth it :)

Toyota specs 5-8hp gain. That will all be top end where it will not be noticeable in daily driving. You will get a more aggressive sound, which by the butt dyno may feel like more power.

Ok so the real performance test was done last night.. My brother and I have identical brand new tacos bought at the same time, same upgrades and even with the same mileage and same tires. Only difference is I have the TRD exhaust. We raced them head to head and mine pulled away about 1/2 a truck length ahead and continued to pull away. So how's that for a placebo effect.

We only did the one run because the trucks are still being broken in and you're not supposed to do any "sudden acceleration" before 1,600kms. We will try again and again after that point.

Changing the intake helps as well. I'm gonna try the k&n filter first then maybe the TRD CAI..

Local Toyota dealer here had them on sale for $450 CDN. Regular price is $700 for the part alone here. I couldn't pass that up.

If you can change your oil you can change your exhaust. Just 2 bolts and rubber hooks. Dealer wanted 1/2hr labor to do it ($75)

8hp at redline is only a 3% gain, 5hp is only 2%. Tiny gains at peak hp will produce no noticeable difference when trying to race another truck.

Check craigslist, I see many pulled off all the time that people thought were too loud. Some only days old.

Why did you stop at just one? With 14 stickers you could have a supercharger.

Each sticker is a great bargain considering the price you pay for such huge gains.

Don't forget to get yourself a proper tuneup after you add your stickers to maximize output and efficiency.

This isn't an old school v8....... An exhaust alone won't do anything noticeable, especially when it's same size as stock, and stock is also mandrel, a couple HP is within normal dyno run variances....... I'm sure Toyota chose the best pull to document and not an avg...... It's all sales..... Just like that overpriced etched TRD tip from bosal.
