 nope! The fitters are tacking tho... And yea I'm just stacking welds to cover the gap and get fusion. Ima spend some time grinding after its finished and try to clean it up. QC doesn't check till job is finished usually and boss just trust the fitter.

So I'm new to welding and I'm currently taking classes at the community college and figured I won't get anywhere doing it only once a week for 4 hours. So I thought I'd look into buying my own. I've been lookin at either the millermatic 211 or the power mig 210. Any pointers would be awesome. Also can you set up for stick with the millermatic? THANKS!

I learned to TIG stainless in about 4 hours with no welding experience, so there is that. Make sure welding is something you like doing before you go spending a bunch of money.

Ask your teacher if you can get in any other nights to practice??

So places and teachers let you if they have the space.

Don't buy a machine if you're new to it. Jumping in over your head IMO. Just ask to come in during other times to practice more.

So easy to teach yourself bad habits that take forever to break.

If you can teach yourself to weld and have passed all the certs in that process to ASME section 9 codes you have my praise.

It has it`s place in production welding But myself I don`t care for it

I do like a dual shield wire but it can be a pain at times to get dialed in just perfect

28.5 volts. 285 WFS. I'm a structural welder working at a power plant right now so our machines are a bit different than the at home guy. It runs off a red-d-arc extreme 360 to a red d arc suitcase lol

Wire is .045. Couldn't really tell ya much more cause I haven't ever really looked much at the box. Its all we got so I just throw it on.

Method is pretty similar to a 7018 rod. ~1" stick out usually. Just pull the trigger and drag in a zig zag pattern to fuse the metals.
Pretty much like this /\/\/\/ barely pausing on the sides and rushing across the middle.

Flux core is actually pretty awesome to weld if you get a machine that can efficiently handle the high output.

Haha ok, a lot different than household. I'm trying to get into a welding class before I get out. I haven't really found a good technique for flux cored household besides the straight pull or c method.

Straight pull. A little phrase to go by is "if its got slag then let it drag". You aren't supposed to do C's with flux cause you can trap slag in the weld.

Push or pull flux with a sweeping (zig zag) motion. A lot of people want to run flux like mig and its a hard habit to break but its 2 different monsters.

    Looks good

Yup, very difficult for me to jump between the 2 on plates (mig root, flux core fillers and caps) when I'm just practicing, and keep the teqnique right for both without thinking about it.
