Yeah, the Shelterlogic brand is the one I am looking at. There are definitely more expensive versions out there, just don't know if they are worth it.

I like the lights but that's about it. I hate how the bumper bulges out at the bottom. Looks like Jay Leno's chin

This'll be the 3rd winter on my Shelterlogic. The frame is holding up just fine but the tarp part is on its last winter, I think. It's getting threadbare where the frame contacts the tarp. I've run a cheap Home Depot tarp along the inside, between the frame and the factory cover, but it's just a band-aid. Would probably last better if you can keep it out of the sun, like under a tree or something. Fortunately the replacement cover is only $150 or so.

Yeah I don't know why they run such thin oil either. When the oil gets old, all it does is degrade further.

Probably so we can cause slow damage over years, then have them come in with knock issues out of warranty?
My FJ only has the 4 pin connector. I don't like it

I had two at my old house before the airport bought it.
I put them up because I needed storage & wasn't going to build a garage only to have it torn down.
They lasted 4 years in Vermont & I sold them when I left.
    Couple of things I did-
I reinforced the roof underneath with strapping lumber zip tying to the metal frame.
That helped with snow load keeping the roof taut.
Also I used 3' green fence stakes 3 per side pounded into the ground.
I attached those with hose clamps around the metal frame.
It held up to Hurricane Irene. The stakes that come with the kit do not work.
Also used some sure-pac on the floor to keep moisture at bay.
Honestly they worked much better than I thought.
In heavy snow fall, I would roof rake it a bit fwiw.

I have a Rhinoshelter (they are in CT) that I have had up for 6 years and it is still in good shape. You have to remove the snow every storm but other than that it is great.

X3 on the stakes, but I used some rusty old rebar I had lying around rather than hardwood stakes.

Mine is round too but the snow sticks. I moved mine recently after 5 years and the in ground anchor cables had all but disintegrated so I installed new ones. They should be checked periodically. I like the strapping idea across the metal frames.

I guess I was hoping there was a place in my trucks wiring harness that a extension would add the needed wiring to just plug a 7 pin end into the bumper.

Frost again here today. That's 3 days in a row now.

I even got a batch of fridge muffins going last night, so there's a sure sign that winter's on its way.

It's a bran muffin recipe that you can make and store (covered) in the fridge for up to 5 weeks. Then when you want hot muffins for breakfast in the AM you just give the batter a stir, fill the muffin tins, and put them in the oven for 18-20 minutes. That way you don't have to take an hour in the AM to do up a batch of muffins, just spoon some batter into the tins.
For example, usually what I do is get up, preheat the oven while I'm making my coffee, and I'll put them in the oven before I get in the shower. Super easy. And they're cheap, too. I think the ingredients run somewhere in the $10 range for a batch, and we get around 3 dozen muffins from it.

Throw some blueberries in there just before cooking and you've got something!

We usually do. Or whatever other fresh fruit we've got. Or we'll stir in some applesauce if we don't have any fruit (a rarity).

Anybody want the recipe? You need a big tupperware for it (I think mine is a 15-cup unit), so it does take up a chunk of fridge space, but damn it's convenient.
