Yes. I got the Toyos MT 255, stock gears, auto trans. Using a very accurate GPS, 69mph @ 1,900 rpm.

    Dropped into 4th gear, 65mph @ 2,500rpm

    Thanks.

Good writeup on your experience. I'm probably going to get gears and will probably do 4.56 but will wait till next year.

Thanks for the review @Desert Drifter. Helps a bunch. I think 4.56 are the way to go especially since I think your heavier than me and your rpms seem reasonable.

@Crom thats what I am getting with my set up as well.

I am looking to sell a set of 4 Toyo Open Country MTs mounted on black tundra 16 hole steel wheels, 4.75 BS. Asking $1000, I live in PA/NJ/MD area. The tires are in great shape and have only 6k miles on the them. I will be posting on TW marketplace but figured I would give a shout out to this thread for people looking for a solid deal on rims and tires in this size. PM me..

Any 4 banger 5spd in here that has calculated their mpg? Debating 255/85 cooper st or 255/75r17 duratracs. Coopers weigh 4lbs a piece more than the duratracs.

Stand by for my easy fix (I just need to find time to upload pics into the computer). I moved my 255/ 80/ 17 spare back under the truck and noticed the same problem. I just dropped the hanger, drilled new holes, and put it back.

I should also mention that I had a bed cap on and for half of those miles a 300lb bike sitting on a 50lb hitch carrier.

Glad to offer advice if it helps! Running 4.56 gears: when I see the tach pushing 3,000 RPM on the highway it makes me slow down a bit which is good anyway.

Pretty close to 80mph, we have 75 MPH speed limits once away from town here in AZ and 80 is pretty safe when traffic is light (but fuel mileage suffers big time!). I used to drive a 1/2 ton GMC pickup with the 5.3L V8, and automatic trans, it would get 21 on the Interstate at posted speed limit all the time, but it was 2WD.

I have 265/75R16 Dura-Trac tires, great traction but the rocks chew them up fast! I run Cooper ST (the older style) in 255/85R16, quieter on the street and good off-road too. I love the height of the skinnies, suprising what another half inch ground clearance can do!

    1) My daily driver gets 28-30 MPG (2009 VW GTI)
    2) Gas is cheap right now, use it!
    3) Enjoy where your Tacoma can take you and what it can haul, use it for a truck and don't beat yourself up over gas mileage, let the tree huggers do the worrying. [IMG] :crapstorm:

That's my issue. I want beefy Cooper 33's.... but at the same time, it's my dd, and I live in the cities. So there's always hundreds of highway miles between me and any camping/off-roading... Gotta compromise.

I think that's around where they'll be happy as well. I have them at 32/30 F/R and it's not nearly as bad, but I know the rear needs to go down more just haven't chalk tested them. But now I see I have pretty bad rubbing on the LCA and frame rail on TRD OR alloys.
