Last week my wife got a nail in one of my new tires. Once it was repaired, the tire techs noticed that the tpms was leaking air. They took it our and put in a regular valve stem in. After inspecting the sensor there is no visible damage to the sensor, but there is not a "needle" in the stem to allow/stop air flow. Is there a way to get a new "needle" or will it take getting a new sensor?

Are you referring to the core that comes in all valve stems? Pictures would help.

Those "techs" took out that core and didn't replace it.

Most TPMS rebuild kits include a new core and seals to prevent leaks, and should be used whenever a tire is replaced or repaired. Inexpensive and cheap insurance.

The following pic is for the steel wheels. Not sure if it is interchangeable with the alloys.

Yes I was referring to the core. I didn't know exactly what it was called when I posted. So I could get a new valve core and it possibly be fine?

This, but don't go back to that tire shop. If they can't figure that out, they sure won't be able to assemble a TPMS sensor and torque the nut correctly without breaking the hollow stem.

Do the whole service kit with the seal around the stem as well as the new core.

Personally, I just threw all the sensors in a PVC "bomb" and replaced all the sensors with normal valve stems when I got new wheels. But, if youre only one sensor away from leaving that system intact. Get the rebuild kit and leave a few extra in the glove box for the future.
