What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Picked up pieces for the Rear Diff Breather mod at my local Toyota dealer. $13 for the pieces. Now to buy tubing/hose.

 

Do you need to pick up the pieces from Toyota, or can these parts be bought elsewhere?

These are actually Toyota parts. They are not listed for the Tacoma though according to my dealer. I got the part numbers off the "diff breather mod for dummies" thread.

I think it's Camelback Toyota that sells parts online?

A few days ago, I posted a request for the part # for the TRD front skid plate. Got a neighbor who wants one installed on his truck. That one is ordered from the freindly guys at Oxmoor Toyota parts dept. Before I got the part #, a fellow TW/Kentuckian, Beertimecontinuum, (Everett) reached out and let me know he had one he took off his truck (to make room for SOS skids) He let me have that bad boy! So now there's one for MY Taco! We met Tuesday evening and made the exchange. Best part was putting a face to a user name!

SO....He'd painted it dark gray and that paint just wasn't sticking very well. I took a day off work yesterday to take care of a couple chores, then spent much of the day fitting, prepping, painting and finding the right bolts to attach the latest addition to my truck. Apparently he'd landed on the skid plate a time or two! It was slightly bowed up in the middle to the point the bolt holes wouldn't line up. Fortunately, I have a hydraulic press and some experience straightening odd shapes of metal. (I used to restore old farm tractors) Once the plate was pressed back into shape, and everything bolted up right, I bead blasted it to clean metal, used a good epoxy aluminum primer, (which dries in 1 hour) then put a coat of Duplicolor "aluminum silver", which dried in another hour, and finally, a good thick coat (6 thin coats) of Duplicolor "plastidip" type "matte finish clear" to give it the raw aluminum "mill finish" I wanted. Then it sat for over 24 hours to cure.

Fast forward to today! I get home, grab a ratchet, a 2" extention, a 12mm and a 13mm socket, a drift punch, and the skid plate. When I installed it, I purposely left out the 2 aluminum spacers that normally would go under the front 2 bolts. That allows the skid plate to close up a little closer to the front valance. (within 3/4") Otherwise there's a considerable gap that just didn't appeal to me.

DONE! And the best part is (besides the fact that it was FREE!) is knowing 2 fellow TW-ers are now freinds. Thanks Everett!

Today I finally installed my RCI Rock Sliders, with Kickout. I would have done this two weeks ago, but I had two Driver's Side sliders, and none for the Passenger's side.



Honestly I have to give RCI some kudos. Sure a mistake was made when they shipped me one of the wrong sliders, however Josh really did work to make it right. He arranged for UPS to come to me to pick up whichever extra one I didn't want. (one had some slight damage in shipping.) And not only shipped the replacement quickly, he tossed in an RCI T-Shirt.

I would have preferred there wasn't a mistake in the first place, but good customer service is the stuff that makes for repeat customers in my opinion.

Spark plugs at 60k?!

 

I do my air filters too at major maintenance times. Grease gun, propeller zerks.

 

I did this last night and then cleaned it off today.

De-badged my Tacoma finally after talking about doing it for the last 3yrs since i bought my truck brand new in 2012!

 

Washed it finally.

 

Today - oil change, air filter, and greased the drive shafts - 65K miles

Tomorrow - new tires.

 

Programed a Spar G Chip key with my new Techstrem OBII
way better & Cheaper then a Dealer or locksmith

 

Pretty sure spark plug change intervals are 60k miles along with all the differential fluids.
