Anybody know what the cost and procedure complexity of just replacing the chrome trim piece around the grill? I personally think the smoked chrome with a black trim would be amazing.

Well I know what I will be doing and that is to mask off the 2 bars going across the grille and paint the rest black...

This ^^. Best and simplest mod IMO. I have no shame in taking a good idea and running with it.

Think I will do this as well. It beats spending $500 bucks just to add another trims grill.

Also,I think it would look good with or without the trim left chrome. I may black the mesh first and see what I think. It is such a simple option. Thank goodness for photoshop.

Thoughts... first time shopping a photo. The blue isn't quite right, but you get the gist. I am willing to take all the time to prep/paint and clear. I'm not sure about the emblem, but I like the blacked out mesh and the blue trim shrinks the overall grill. Color coded spray with good clear should work pretty well since it is a separate piece.

I think that looks very sharp! So, your plan is to remove the entire grill and paint it yourself? Will you buy the paint from the dealer? Can that be used to spray? Excuse my ignorance, but Ive never tried to color match paint a vehicle before.

My plan was to plastidip, what you painted black, and leave the rest chrome, but I like yours better.

you can get color matched paint lots of places online in a spray can. This color has been on the yaris and a few others I think, so you can get it readily. It doesn't have to be a perfect match of the exact paint lot since you aren't trying to match a panel. The trick is prep and using a good clearcoat. The wife is on board, so I will post pics if I do it. Truck isn't due for a couple weeks though.

Yeah, that look is nice and is basically what inspired me, but I really wanted to eliminate the chrome too. Anything is an improvement. Worst case, I screw it up and have to plasti-derp the whole thing, but I have some exp painting.
