What kind of gearing do you guys like to spin those 33s? The 4 banger was so fun to drive that I am set on getting an i4 tacoma. I'm thinking 4.88s in conjunction to a t-case regear would be nicer off road, but I'm afraid the 4.88s on the road might be too short and that I should go with 4.56 instead.

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
4.56 is about right for an I4 running that tire size.

    What trans do you have?
I have a 2.7 w/auto and run 285-75-16's. Gearing is 5.29's and is perfect. For the T-case, I have an Inch Worm 4.7 lefty... crawls nice & slow.

    Good luck.

If I was going to go through all the hassle of a regear, I would just go ahead and go 4.88's. That way if you wanted to upsize to a 35 later on you'd have the gears for it, plus I've heard that the extra power is nice with 88's and 33's.

You are correct if the OP has a manual trans. A 'No Go' if he has an auto like I do.
    Prior to my having 5.29's & 285-75-16's, I had 4.88's & 265-75-16's. Both worked well.

Hope that clears things up a bit.

Damn you, Ritchie. I thought I was all set on getting 4.88s for my 2014 2.7 Auto and 285s. Now you've got me re-thinking...damn you!
I drive 75 on the freeway often, but I MAY go to 315s in the future, so maybe 5.29s would be better for me.
    Unsure again!

At 75mph, I'm turning 3000 rpm. At 70, 2750. Its great for my 2.7... it's in the power band at those rpm's, at least mine is. I wouldn't change a thing.
Remember, I have an auto trans.

    Good luck.

You will kick yourself if you do not get 5.29's, trust me... I had 4.88's prior. No power at all. 33's with the 2.7 & auto trans is awesome. My truck currently weighs 3,800 lbs and no problems at all.

    Good luck.

With a manual, you'll be fine.

    Good luck.
