Had my truck inspected 2 days ago. they said it passed...and the hole needs to be 10mm before it fails...wtf?

i'm gonna have it taken back again before the inspection period ends in March, but i'll be out on deployment till April...

I tried asking if they had any trucks here (Hawaii) fail, but they wouldn't tell me.

i'm pretty sure I could squeeze a dime in that hole, and its only going to rot more.

That's not all the way through. That's what it looks like when it's on its way. Personally, I would persuade that spot with a hammer and then take it in to the dealership for inspection. Punch it right through. That's how they're supposed to check the frames anyway, with a hammer.

my truck was purchased new here. I live about 3/4mi from the beach and park about 500ft from another at work, so I'm always near the salt air.

I was rather surprised to find this spot next to the cat...it was just a line earlier this year, I had some other areas under the cab that started to flake off for the last 4 years.

I plan to push my truck through.

I'll crawl under this weekend and clean up the dirt and take some better pics with my machinist rule for documentation.

Yeah dont let up. Your truck with hole in frame is practically a salvage at this point, nobody is going to buy it. Make Toyota replace the frame.

It's crazy how tacoma's are #1 for any make or model resale with the frame rot issues they have.

So I have my eye on a 2005 PreRunner long-bed for a good price point, but there is some rusting on the frame. I ran the VIN on the Toyota recall website, and this one does have the recall listed on it, and it is in one of the states (GA) listed. Says the deadline for inspection is March 2016. This may be a SUPER obvious question, but does that mean if I buy the truck now, I would be eligible for the inspection? I just would like to get a sanity check before a drop a bunch of money on this truck that it would be taken care of if there were serious frame issues from the rust. I've never had a vehicle with a recall issue, and I don't know if you have to have owned it during a certain time period prior.

You would be covered under the recall. I was in the same situation last fall when I bought my 2006 and they inspected it and sprayed the frame. Mine didn't have any rust through.
