Just thought I might share this information with the rest of the forums. After calling 8 separate OEM part distributors, 3 dealerships, and Toyota customer service directly, I can confirm that the stock LCAs have an 8500+ unit backorder right now. Only 19 units exist in-stock in the entire country (US).

On top of that, persons wanting to order the part have to provide Toyota with their VIN and justification for 'wanting' the part (how about this: the alignment sleeve in your crappy under-engineered LCA seized on me and now I can't align my damn wheels!).

Anyone have a clue what's going on? It almost sounds like a new TSB or recall is imminent and they're wanting to minimize the number of repairs they'll have to retroactively honor..

As a consequence, it looks like I'll be getting some aftermarket LCAs unless Toyota gets back to me in the next couple of days with good news (i.e. a new stock LCA being shipped to me). Not looking forward to spending ~1500 on two new LCAs when I can just get away with replacing one OEM for ~$300 parts.

But, if I am forced into the aftermarket route, it looks like the only good options are Total Chaos and Dirt King (Dorman are junk apparently). Not planning to go LT. Any recommendations?

My alignment cams are seized as well. I'm buying the left side and alignment cams and bolts for $150 from a wrecker. I'm going to be really pissed if another recall comes out on this. I already had to buy new springs because mine were broken. 3 months later and a recall notice is in the works. The back order is probably due to the frame replacement campaign. They are having to change out the lca and alignment cams because they don't come off easily and are seized. Wait another 4 years or so and there will be hundreds of thousands of tacomas with seized alignment cams. There might be a recall then. I can't wait that long. Pisses me off.

I hear you, frustrating as hell. You sure you can't get reimbursed for at least some of the springs purchase retroactively?

Glad you mentioned the frame replacement campaign - I was aware of it but didn't realize it affected the LCAs. Will have to check if my VIN is covered by that recall, maybe I can get them to pay for the LCA replacement in a bass-ackwards manner. Hmm.

If all else fails, will start looking for local wreckers before I spent any coin on a new LCA. How do you plan on removing your seized cams? It seems like you basically have to cut the things out. I don't think my dremel is up to the task, heh.

I just installed a Moog LCA on my passenger side since I didn't want to deal with popping out the ball joint and bushings, and for $110 I couldn't complain since it looks just as stout as OEM. HOWEVER, the Moog driver side LCA is also on backorder so it was only a partial win.

I plan on getting some good recip blades and cutting them out. There's no other way once they're seized. Wrecking yard is my plan as well. I've got one side covered, but I'm waiting on finding the right side. I went into the dealer and priced out the parts. The parts guy actually said it's too bad your frame checked out, you would have got new bushings and cams. He then said your not going to like this quote- $1600 for parts and I do the work. I've always loved toyotas, but this truck has me concerned.

I should have done this when I replaced my LCA on the '05 4Runner.

I've got a buddy debating right now ('06 with 210k miles) and he wants to do a full 3" OME lift, but his Cam Bolts are frozen; he me trade it in on a 5th Gen 4Runner or wait for a '16 Tacoma.

I just bought two LCA's from wrecked trucks with low mileage including the alignment cams for $300. Better than me dealing with the nightmare of pressing out the bushings. All I need to worry about now is cutting out the originals and paying for another alignment. Such as scam where I live, $156 for an alignment and they tell me my alignment cams are seized and they just barely got the truck aligned to spec.

So what is everyone doing for lca replacement?

My bolts/bushings are seized and was thinking new ones were the way to go....

Scour junkyards or try to score some from someone who took them off their rig in the BST. You can also drop $400+ on OEM ones from the dealership.

If your LCAs are good you can always just replace the bolts and bushings. Might take some hacking of the bolts but it's doable. There's a write up on how to remove frozen bolts on here somewhere.

A lot of the pictures got taken off the first page but I believe are scattered throughout. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/diy-lca-bushing-replacement-2005-tacoma-4x4.

Oem lca are still on a,national backorder. So no oem from dealership option, and they are 270, not 400....backorder is awesome!

Thats interesting on the national back-order... I just orded all new cam bolt hardware for both sides but no mention on a back order of the complete LCA's. Cam hardware was $350 for everything (both sides). I forget what the total cost per LCA was but i remember laughing at it. The bushings alone from toyota were $150 min each ($300 a side just for bushings) Yikes.
