I was driving yesterday and tried to put my truck in 4 wheel drive and all I got was a clicking noise and the 4 wheel drive didn't engage. Tried it a few more times and it did the same thing. I haven't tried it since in case something was seriously wrong. I used it a lot last week while driving through the woods hunting and didn't have any issues. Anyone had this happen before?

Is the click mechanical or electrical? My '09 clicks or clunks when 4x4 engages, but it is a mechanical click coming from the transfer case. Have you tried to engage in neutral and move forward or backward while engaging?

It wasn't coming from the transfer case as far as I could hear. I get that clunk when it comes out of 4 wheel and it didn't sound like that. The clicking wasn't real loud but loud enough to hear well.

It doesn't just click once it's a constant click. I haven't really messed with it since. I thought I would do some research first so I didn't make it worse by trying different things.

When this happened to me, I checked the little card that came with my truck with instructions on how to engage 4x4. On a flat surface, put it in neutral and let your foot off the brake. Then try to engage it. If that doesn't work, get your truck rolling either forwards or backwards and then try to engage it.
    Good luck!

Thanks. I usually engage it on the fly going under 20 mph and have never had a problem before. I'll have to try a few things when I get a chance today.

I can check that too, but it doesn't engage so I don't think the prop shaft is turning.

Good call on the prop shaft. I went under the truck last night and there was a 1 inch diameter stick about 2 feet long lodged against the shaft. Got it out and everything seems fine. I knew I was driving through some thick shit, but didn't expect that. Thanks.
