What's up Tacoma World!Today is technically the first day of the nearly month long expedition. I just got settled in at my parents house after driving the 871 miles from Florida to Indiana where we have effectively set up base camp. We will have a down day on Tuesday Sept 15 in order to get our gear lined up and give me the opportunity to spend one more night on a real bed before heading out Wednesday towards Colorado which is the first stop in our journey. Wish us luck!

    OUR EQUIPMENT
    2004 Tacoma sr5 4x4 (Geronimo)
    1977 Starcraft popup camper A.K.A. '6'

I was going to do a blog type thread... but that requires internet/phone connection... which we were trying to avoid... so here is the completed w/u a few weeks late

Well we got a late start due to some issues regarding the hitch/receiver. The multi fit hitch wasn't enough for the massive 2500lb trailer... After a long morning locating a new receiver. And early afternoon installing it and fitting my bumper back on we were off! We drove straight through to Greeley, Colorado. We ended up crashing at Boyd lake state park after 24 hours of driving.
    BOYD LAKE State Park
    - Great place if you are family camping and want easy access to alot of amenities
    - Has showers and flushable toilets!!
    - Great Views of the Rocky Mountains in the morning and night

We left Greeley, CO on Friday and started out for Rifle, CO which according to my GPS an hour past the half way point to Moab, UT. On the way we stopped at lookout point over Denver, CO which was badass!!

The drive to Rifle, CO took us right through the heart of the Colorado Rocky's. Pictures do not do it justice!

    RIFLE FALLS/RIFLE GAP STATE PARK
    - Doesn't look like much from the road that crosses over the damut area is full of state parks and BLM land access.
    - Some electrical sites
    - vault toilets
    - BLM access to Hogback mountains

Spent 2 nights at Rifle Gap because it was awesome! we set out for Moab, UT and ended up detouring to Colorado National Monument after having a chat with an elderly couple at a visitor info center in Fruitia, CO.

the drive to Moab made me feel like I was in Mad Max for a little while... speed limit of 80 on the Interstate, what kind of anarchy is this!

Well day two (prep day) went as well as can be expected, got the trailer loaded with all the necessary gear. Not the ideal support vehicle, but it's what we have. still have yet to take any pictures... :worthless:

Plan to start the 24 hr drive at about 6:30est

Grand Canyon for sure, this is a great idea!

I think I'm going to have to do this with my kids. I think maybe one on one as they reach a certain age. Great bonding time.

Great year for tacomas. I have Geronimos brother...

After a long arduous 24hr 1500 mile drive we made it!!! After a short night at a state park near Denver. We moved on to Rifle, Co. My dad and I got obligatory photos on Hogback mountain overlooking Rifle gap.
