*If this is the wrong place to post, please point me in the right direction.

I was replacing the map light bulbs, and one of the sockets pushed out of the board. It appears the sockets are just pressed into the circuit board, so I need to remove the overhead console so I can push the socket back into place.

How does this come off? I'm afraid to just pull :)

Can't help you with removal but those stock lamps are hard to get out. I used a strip of duct tape and wrapped the bulb .While holding the wrapped bulb I pulled on the duct tape and they came right out.

I saw your mention of that in another post - for whatever reason, my duct tape wouldn't grip. I did get the bulbs out with a small screwdriver prying on the base of the bulb. I put the new LED bulb in part way, it didn't come on. Pulled out, put in, still didn't work - power shut off. Closed an opened the door, tried again - didn't work. Removed turned around, worked. Went to seat properly, socket popped out. The socket still works - I can make contact with the bulb contacts and the bulb lights up - I just can't seat the bulb properly.

If there's a eye glass compartment open it and look for mounting screws . Remove them. My '14 had 1. Then I pulled it down . It takes some force. When you put it back in make sure all the clips are on the console.

There were no screws, but you did have to pull like you mean it. 4 tabs, one in each corner.

At first, I thought the socket concept was a cheap way to go, but with how easy it is to pull the console down, the sockets make perfect sense.

For those who have not done this before, here's a quick write-up:
Pull the console down (I started rear driver side, then rear passenger side, then the console popped out).

The bulb sockets twist into the circuit board; remove socket, replace bulb, return socket to board.

Align the 4 red tabs to the holes in roof supports, and press in place (it goes in a lot easier than it comes out).
Console back in place, no need to remove the lenses :)

If the LED bulb doesn't work one way, it is super easy to reverse the socket.

That sucks...I had a bad rattle in my rear seats and realized..I forgot to throw away the dome bulb and it fell into a hole on my back seats while down.....That was tough to get out and eliminate that rattle

Sorry I also neglected to mention, I used a little alcohol to get my finger oils off the bulb after trying with just my hands to make the duct tape stick better.

If a hook pick will not fit around a 194 bulb for removal, I have removed bulbs by tying a string/floss loop around the bulb base and pulling the bulb out via string/floss.

Thanks for write-up. i went to install my V1 radar detector and noticed it didn't have screws. I've installed this V1 into 4-5 vehicles. all had sunglass holder, and all had a couple of screws or torx inside to hold up panel... i got into my '16 earlier today, and noticed none. I'll just try and pull down like hell. I was too scared to try it blind on a vehicle i have owned for 48 hours.

Next question. Anyone pull a 12V ignition lead off of the sunroof yet? i can get my meter up there, no problem, but if someone knows of the color and harness, it can save me the trouble!

Love the truck. Took it down to the coast 2 hours after owning it. followed by lots of vacuuming...

My 2015 base model attaches differently. It only has two tabs on the front portion; in the back it is held on with 3 tabs/fingers that hook up into the headliner and one screw.KIMG0114.jpg KIMG0112.jpg

I just ordered a V1 Savvy to avoid tapping into wires. I will have to figure a way to wire my Blackvue.

Did you ever figure out if you can pull 12v from the overhead/sunroof console? I'd like to pull power from there for a dash cam. Would save me a ton of time as opposed to running it all the way around. Thanks!

    LS1 swap with nitros.
I'm going to wire in a homelink I bought off eBay into the overhead. With all those wires up there I'm betting one has 12v from the ignition, just need to find it. Will then add the homelink with a fuse and should be good to go for $20. Ill post it up if I get it done.

Have you found any hot wires up there yet?
    Large enough to splice into?

    Thanks!

25 grams of C4 will remove it quite easily. Putting it back could be an issue.

I'm gonna pull mine down to fix a rattle. I've got a test light and I'll try to find an accessory 12v wire.

    Great!
    Will monitor this thread.
Let us know if it is "ignition on" only, or constant 12VDC or whatever.
