Check your heat shields, and skid plate bolts (sounds weird, but found one that rattled like that on a truck).

When your catalytic converters start to break down you get little bits of the front cats trapped in the back cats and that will rattle like crazy too. You should pop off all of your heat shields and see if any gravel is in them, if not disconnect your Y pipe from the front cats and the exhaust pull it out and see if any small bits fall out. Tap it on the ground to see if you can dislodge any bits out of the rear cats.

Dealership is awesome. They told me (and I know the guys there pretty well) that they decide who they float money to or help out which is messed up for everyone else but for me it is good. Anyways one of their mechanics and I jumped under it and started shaking all those tin heat shields, bunch of rocks fell on me...I am hoping that was it, I have not heard that noise all day today, a couple of the heat shields are just hanging there and can cause other noises but not the one I was talking about, so I used a good cocking and pretty much cocked it in place for kind of a rubbery buffer then bolted it down, I hope for the best.

Sounds like engine mount welds. There are some boards for it. 05 and 06 tocos have shitty engine mount welds. That has to be the cause.

My 2005 prerunner had frame failure Aug 2024
i just went through the same thing these last 2 weeks with my 2005 prerunner. almost a gurgling sound coming from the passenger side of the engine. for me it was going to be either the alternator, a/c unit or any of the 3 flywheels that are part of that whole belt drive. i just replaced my AC and the 3 flywheels this week. running quiet. I hope that's not your issue.

It is still doing it but I am almost positive it is a heat shield, runs too good and shifts too good to be anything else.

What are you panicking about? It's not suspension or brake related, so it's not a safety issue. The truck drives fine. It's just a noise. Turn the music up.

That's like offroad 101. My truck sounds like an orchestra of chimps with tin cans and wrenches some days.
