LED 3rd brake light

so made 3rd brake light using Philips Lumileds. 36 of them. those led bulbs that claim they are bright is BS. this things are bright
took me couple hours to assemble and solder everything

 

What are the dimensions of your PCB?

Is there enough room for the board to be 6.7" long?

 

no because bulbs sit recessed in housing and parts that not recessed is right up against the red lens so it would not fit

 

I ask because I had been considering trying to retrofit two of these red COB LEDs behind the lens.

 

That's something I'd pay for, would you wanna make one for me?

For real though, I'd pay you for that service and I'd bet you could do quite a few here and make some extra cash for yourself.

Better than making them and selling them. Do a writte up with parts and pics of what you did so the rest of TW can do it.

I can do write up its not hard, just need parts i guess. Ill make another one and maybe sell it for write up. It took me 3 hours so it wouldnt be worth it for me to make them and make profit

 

I work 65 to 75 hours a week so I'd pay you for that write up one, it would actually be worth it to me lol. All I want is sleep lol

 

I compared it to brightness as stock led tails. I made another board yesterday, have to put it through text to make sure it can be on for 10 min without burning up couse leds do get hot

 

You know of course you need to put dropping resistors in series with LEDs to limit the current to them right?

Yes i do. 44ohm (2 22ohm in series 1/2w each resistor. Im sure its overkill but just to be safe. I would put PWM on it too but there is no space for that

 

Ok. I just didn't see any on the front of the board. You should probably limit the current seen by each LED to 20 mA or less depending on what they are rated for.

That setup must be super bright with 36 high flux LEDs. I like it!

 

Philips lumileds are rated for 70ma, not like cheap ebay that are rated for 20
