I recently totaled my 2005 Honda Accord and my insurance gave me cash to buy a different vehicle. I have my eyes set on either a 4Runner or Tacoma 4x4. I came across this used high mileage Tacoma. It has 186K. It has 3 previous owners. Zero rust. Very good condition. Clean carfax with zero accidents and all routine maintenance scheduled like clock work. Newer tires. Bed cover. It is really good condition. I love hunting, I will pull a small trailer for ATV. I have one 11 year old child and it will be just the two of us and occasional friends. I live in snowy North Dakota. The asking price was $13,999. After negotiations, I can purchase this truck for $12,500. What is your thoughts? Price respectable? Is this fair market value? Thought on this truck? Thanks. Ray

How mechanically inclined are you? With that sort of mileage, you can expect a few minor repairs in the not too distant future even in the best of circumstances. It's not uncommon to see Tacoma's go 250,000 to 300,000 miles without any major issues. Due to the fact the truck is essentially "stock", it probably hasn't been rode hard and put away wet.....So you may do just fine. That's a decent price, not any extreme bargain, but not out of line either. Interior looks good, which is usually a tip off the truck wasn't abused. I suppose a lot would depend on how many miles a year you typically drive.....

Is it just the angle, or is the rear bumper bent down a little bit?

I noticed that in the photos. I am shopping this on line and the owner of the dealership told me it had zero damage. Could it be the angle? What's your thoughts on this 4Runner?

I have no opinion on 4runners. I have never used one.

I will call the dealership on Monday to ask about the rear bumper. I hope it's just the angle. Yes I do have a 4x8 utility trailer with a rear mesh ramp if purchasing the 4R. What are your thoughts the tacoma trd sport double cab truck? How has your experiences been? Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

I just switched from an '03 4Runner v8 Sport Edition 2WD to a '13 Tacoma TX Baja. I did not find the front seats very comfortable in the 4Runner, but that could be a mileage/wear thing. I bought it with 110k and has somewhere around 153k after 5 years, compared to 26k on the Tacoma. 4th Gen 4Runners also have a tendency to go through calipers like the Cookie Monster next to a cookie jar. Some people have started using the 5th gen calipers so maybe that could solve the issue. I never did any direct comparison test drives between the v6 and v8 models. I only drove v6 4WDs and v8 2WDs but even the v6 4WD were out of my budget at the time. The 4WDs do seem to hold their value much more than the 2WD, but still doesn't seem nearly as well as Tacomas have held theirs. The v8 did seem much better at highway cruising and always enjoyed it around town as well. The v8s are an interference engine with a timing belt so that is an important maintenance item to remember every 90k. For some reason I'm thinking the v6s are also interference but use a chain. There is also some towing differences. I believe it's 7800 pounds for v8 2WD and 7500 pounds for 4WD. Pretty sure the v6s are whatever the Tacoma limits are for the v6(around 6500 pounds). Other than a few things I did enjoy the 4Runner and if I could have gotten a 4WD when I bought it I likely would not have bought the Tacoma at this time.

if i were to get another tacoma, my standards would HAVE TO BE 4X4 and LONG BED. i do a lot of camping, and my feet stick out of my short bed truck. the shortbed is only 5' long. so i have at least 8" sticking out of my truck bed... thats my opinion.. and i would get it in white.
