I just got a new 07 Tacoma base model and figured the I could swap in TRD Offroad shocks/coils for cheap and level the front end while I was at it. Sure enough, found a set off a '15 with 300 miles on them for a steal.

I was planning to buy the Toytec Top Plate Spacer kit, but I also noticed they sold springs that worked with the OEM shocks, like the 112-620's. I do 90% of my driving on pavement, but I rock climb, camp and back country ski, so I do use my taco to truck a bit. Just no serious offroading and I never intend to lift it more than this.

I want to maintain the ride quality as much as possible without compromising durability or performance. So would spending the extra money for new springs be worthwhile? Will they lift the front end too much? Or will 3/4" spacer plates be plenty?

If it matters, I plan on swapping out the rear shocks at some point, and possibly getting new leaf springs some day, as it rides a bit rough right now.

    What are your thoughts?

Thanks Justus, and sweet build. I have read through your thread before.

That would be my dream setup, certainly, if I planned on lifting the truck at all I would definitely go that route. But I bought like new Bilstein TRD/4600's with new TRD springs for $100, which is like $400 cheaper than the 5100s and springs would have been.

I know that spacers aren't the most desirable, but for my use they would probably be fine. I am not asking for a whole lot of lift anyway. But If the ride is going to be substantially better with new springs, or there is some other benefit, I could be interested in spending a bit more for a better end product. Just looking for any opinions one way or another I guess.

I have the 1/4 Toytec spacers which gives 1/2 lift. I have no complaints or problems. They were perfect for me because I don't Offroad and I only needed to raise the front a little because my airbags raise the rear a little. I couldn't justify buying all new suspension at 15000 miles.
