    Just bought 2016 SR5.

Seems to have the premium JBL head unit but does not have a subwoofer sandwiched behind rear seats.

    Any ideas?

The premium was not on the invoice but the head unit is definitely the JBL according to the manual and lay out of the buttons etc. Also has the apps and Navi etc

You probably got the premium stereo.

From what I understand, the JBL package, compared to the premium and tech, is that it adds amp and sub only. I don't know if the amp runs power to the door speakers.

Can we purchase the JBL sub (and amp) separately from Toyota?? I'm guessing there's a port to plug the amp into and the controls are already there in the software??

I'm an audio junkie and the sound system definitely was not the selling point for me. I was actually somewhat disappointed.. my 2006 Honda CRV has a better stock stereo... although I shouldn't complain most people don't know what good sound is, why should I expect a car maker to put a decent stereo into a truck?

That said, for a $32k truck it should definitely have a decent stereo. Most folks that listen to a smart phone aren't going to notice one way or the other. I'm out camping somewhere in the woods I probably want to have the option for decent sound tho, just saying.

Do all the Sports come standard with the above stereo?

Its like a $800 option At this point you might want to go to a pro installer and install a custom Amp and sub.

My Limited has the sub and I can tell you it will shake the windows without distortion. This system has wonderful highs, mids, and bass.

Damn. Wish I had that jbl amped system. Will have to get a small powered sub going at some point. The premium non jbl has decent mid and highs but a little low end would really help.

I love the head unit. I have my 120g ipod through the usb, the xm free trial and Pandora streaming bluetooth from my phone. Needless to say I have plenty of music options while commuting to work. I have not put a cd into the cd player yet and probably won't for a while.

Agreed. I would not have accepted the order if the JBL SUB was not in the truck. That was why I ordered ALL the tech options.. The sub rocks when you want it to and is otherwise musically correct when playing music with orchestral elements

My plan is to utilize the Entune head unit and add an amp to power a subwoofer. From what I'm reading there are no RCAs behind the head unit and I'll need to splice into the current wiring and run a MiniDSP to clean up sound and any distortion. I'm going to have to research this more because I want to keep the head unit for the sake of steering wheel control Bluetooth ect, but I want to add my own sub system. Time to do some researching on how I can accomplish this and create a clean distortion free sound. I'll also be upgrading the current door speakers in time.

Would like to hear how it goes. I'm thinking more crude fix like a powered sub spliced into rear speakers

So we know now that the OP has Prem/Tech pkg without JBL pkg.

With Prem/Tech + JBL pkg, we do get Subwoofer

Yeah the dude with the pictures showed me the sad truth. I knew when I couldn't find the sub that something was up. Something besides the pig nose on my new taco

You aren't an audio junkie if you want to buy the stock amp and sub... That's over priced garbage.

I am concerned as well. I have access cab ordered with prem and tech package, but no JBL. On the border of being audio junkie... I will have to wait for delivery and decide, but watching this thread for ideas.

This will allow you to keep your stock head unit, boost signal (so it sounds like aftermarket), and clean up the signal. I had one years ago and loved it. I'll be getting another once I acquire my '16.

Shouldn't be any more difficult that a typical head unit/amplifier install, with some know-how. I have a local audio shop that does all of my installs. Should plug into the OEM head unit and then your RCAs would then plug into the Clean Sweep...
