I am Tom from Houston. My current ride is a Tundra 4x4, it's a great truck but will not be around forever. While I occasionally do camping trips with four passengers and a trailer, the Tundra is oversized for my recently earned empty-nester status, so my next truck is on my mind. I had an opportunity at the Texas State Fair to sit in the new Tacoma and the Chevy Colorado.

It took 10 seconds to rule out the Colorado because the location of the foot activated parking brake just in front of the rather ill placed left foot resting pad. I've walked off from a number of vehicle before for this so I didn't bother to take a test drive. It seems to be a design element meant for people under 6'2".

The Tacoma was very nice. The initial problem was lowering my expectations compared to the Tundra for ease of entry and exit. And I'd get rid of those running boards in a second. Since the battery was disconnected, like in a showroom, I didn't get to try out much beyond entry and exit. But the impression was favorable with a familiar placement for major controls and easy to understand steering wheel buttons.

I'd ultimately like to have it set up much like my Tundra, 4X4 and a Leer bed cap with a roof rack on top. Great for hauling camping gear, bikes and kayaks as well as a small camper.
