Yes I was one of them, I hated to have to give up my 1998 Tacoma TRD with 173000 miles on it. I was planning on putting 300000miles on it. But I made out with getting a new truck.

My frame had a hole in the driver side about the size of a half dollar.

It's surprising after this many years that the frames rust resistance has not been improved.

Can't say it has declined. Only time will tell how the newer model frames will hold up to the environment. Least Toyota actively engaged in a recall instead of placing the blame on the customer.

Can't argue that they are owning this at least. Just odd that toyotas are so reliable but they haven't made the frames stand up better to the elements. I have to imagine these frame swap outs and previous 1st gen buy backs have cost them a lot of money to deal with.

Im just glad they actually issued a recall/inspection for the rusty frames. I've owned a few Ford's that had notable problems that was never taken care of by the manufacturer. Specifically, rear ends. I'm sure Toyota is paying for the frame swaps severely, but they took the initiative in taking care of their customers. Now, if they could perform that leaf pack recall that would be wonderful. My leafs are shot to no end.

Are they doing frame swaps on 2nd gens as well? I don't think those are 1st gen frames, unless they are 2wd frames. I know my rear spring hanger does look like that.

Yup, 2005-2007~2008 I believe. They may have included more models of the seconds gen's.

This is what you call a deal. When Toyota bought my truck back I owned it from new 1998 and drove it for 10years with 173000 miles and they gave me a couple of dollars under $15000. So I bought a 2008 TRD off road for 28000. Roughly about 13000 out of my pocket for a new truck. Drove that for two years and put on 24000 miles and traded it in on a 2010 Sport. And it cost me 8000 dollars out of my pocket. That's Toyota taken care of me.
