Currently I have a 2nd gen Pre Runner TRD Sport as a daily driver. Not so sure I want to mod her....
I was thinking about buying a 1st gen 4wd double cab to build for the pending zombie apocalypse.
How much should I expect to pay for maybe a 2000 model year?
Also, which 1st gen years make the best project vehicle??

What's the budget? Maximum amount of miles? Want a project truck?

Just an FYI: Toyota didn't start making the double cabs until 2001-04.

As being someone who comes from the car business, I don't put any faith into the the useless idea that is KBB.
Double cab is not a deal breaker, and budget is whatever...I'm thinking long term project here. I just don't want to
start with a truck that's a total mess...lol, nothing that cause been engulfed by flames or anything.

Those suckers hold their value hence great resale we all love. Most in my area are frame replaced which makes em top dollar. Good luck with your project sounds cool

Different areas different price range. I have 2003 double cab 4x4 non trd that I purchased about 1.5 years ago. 135k clean title one small fender bender 2 owner. I felt like I got a great deal at $11,500.

I bought a 2002 Double Cab TRD PreRunner for $5k in 2013. It is not a beauty queen, but it has been great.

It you are looking for a modder - maybe a less than beautiful 2wd Double Cab with SAS??

NADA and KBB don't SET the prices, it's just a report on what other have paid. If everyone else is paying 10k for a vehicle, you best have something really special if you're trying to get 20 kind of thing.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Any year double cab from 2001-2004 is good, can't go wrong with any of 'em.
