Radar Detector and Go Pro Wiring

I have a passport 8500 radar detector that I want to install the direct wired cord. I also want to have a power source cable for adding a GoPro Hero3 Silver. I do NOT have the GoPro yet, but I would like the power up to the mount so that I can just plug it in when I get it. Any ideas on how to run the power? Is there power in the overhead console to adapt to or should I run it directly from the fuse block? What type of power connections are available for powering up a GoPro? As the MOUNT is factory installed you would think there would have been a provision for a power outlet source for it.

Look in the thread in my sig. Pic's of the dash torn apart and where I tapped into what I think it the trailer brake power connector. I used it to run a cable from there, up the A pillar, and to near the rear view mirror for a radar detector. I tucked the cable into the head liner and have the end coming out near the mirror. Now if I could just find the radar detector

 

They will, we run it in the race truck you just have to mod the case and make sure to drop to 5v or you'll fry the battery (ask me how i know )

I think I've gone through like 5 or 6 GoPros in the last few years since the 3's came out. Those things are garbage, My Hero2s are and will always be my go-to. Still havent lost one and they have been run over, rolled over and all around beat up and still running awesome

 

Thanks everyone for your help, this info will definitely get me going! Silly that I thought there may be a connection for the Go Pro as it is ''factory" mounted! Marketing at its best. I will work on this Sunday and let y'all know how things go. With all the electronics nowadays you would think it would be easier to install 3rd party equipment. Regardless I like things to be tied up nice and neat ...just as if it came from the factory.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to tap into the power that the mirror runs off of. I haven't checked but I assume that the plug on the back of the mirror probably has a Hot post in there.. find the right plug (haven't searched hard but haven't found one yet) wire up one of these with a 3 amp fuse http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CGQME5U?redirect=true&ref_=s9_simh_gw_p23_d0_i1 and you are done

On my wife's Subaru Forester, I used 2 thin copper wires and a multimeter to find the wires providing 12 volt power to the mirror, then I used Posi-Taps from those powered wires to power a dash cam. I'll do the same on the Tacoma, as it uses the same type mirror used on the Subaru.
