:D Those Coopers look great! I would have bought them, but I needed tires and could not wait any longer.

I'll relook at the slider issue... Got some new ideas to test.

That sucks about falling thru the slider kickout. Hope it wasn't too serious. :(

According to the research I did, I know if I regear to 4.56 my truck will be a bit overgeared, but when that happens it wont be a DD either. For gearing, and 33" tires, I think a 4.30 ratio would be ideal, but nobody makes a 4.30 RP for the Tacoma front diff. The other option is 4.10...

The domino effect of modding sometime sucks, and can be an expensive trap. I love my truck the way it is (minus the OME front shocks ), and sometimes I look back at when my truck was stock and where I took it and I think how awesome a stock 4x4 OR Tacoma is. That's why I bought it. Right off the dealer lot, factory locker, ATRAC, factory tuned suspension. :bikewhoops:.

Thanks Nate! I was hoping you'd finish first so I could take your awesome ideas. I might have something to share after this weekend. :fingerscrossed:

You probably do! It's a small world. :)

Thank you. Love the Tacoma! :bananadance:

So in the older trucks, Toyota shipped them with big holes in the frame. This is a trap for salt, water, dirt, and road grime to corrode out the frame. This is the front section of the boxed frame. I was going to install frame plugs, but the dealer wanted $5 each for a plug. I laughed my way out of the parts shop and came up with my own solution. Medium duty dark gray duck tape. Installed in Nov. 2014, It's been 11 months and they've been great.

Seal them all up except for the holes on the bottom side of the frame.

There is a big ~2.5" hole at the body mount perch, you need a flash light to see it, even in day light, I still have to seal that one up...

Haha. Thanks Bruce. You should consider starting a build thread of your own. I've seen bits and pieces of the stuff you have done (in short order too!), and it's impressive to me. :)

have you removed your sway bar yet? if not, go behind those patches and spray a bunch of rust preventer on the captured nuts in there, you have to cut the side of the frame out to get at them later if you dont, i have a giant opening on each side now because of the captured nuts in there

Thanks for the tip. Yes I took the sway bar out back in May, and it's probably never going to see the light of day again. What I did do is apply some grease and threaded the anti-sway bar bolts back into their homes on the frame.

FWIW, both the Pelfreybilt front bumper tie-in brackets and the King resi brackets use those captured nuts

I finally got around to securing my license plate against casual theft. In the great state of california , victims of plate theft can expect to pay the state $40 total to get things right. :( To avoid that potential headache, I decided to take a proactive step.

To prove how easy it is to steal a plate from a stock vehicle, I provided a Phillips screwdriver to my just-turned-5-year old daughter, and instructed her to remove the (2) screws holding it in place. It took her a few minutes, and the plate fell into her hands. She was very proud of her work. :D

I replaced the stock ones with some stainless 1/4-20 x 3/4-Inch Button Socket Cap Screws. I drilled some new holes in bottom of bumper. I used stainless Nylock nuts on the back. The plate and plate holder are super tight now :), and will serve as a decent theft deterrent.

Looking good as always, man! I used a security bolt setup for mine. They use Torx bits that have a pin in the center of the bolt head (requiring a less common bit to remove). I also drilled out for the lower mounting holes and inserted threaded plastic inserts. Works to keep my plates from rattling (pet peeve). As an added bonus, I always use a spray on rubberized undercoating on the back side of my license plates to mute the sound as well.

Thanks man! Anything to deter / slow down thieves is good. I made my plate so tight, it deformed into the curvature of the bumper.

Time moves in one direction, memory another.

I found an mp3 on my hard drive, and paired it with some pics from '09 Death Valley trip and tried my hand at a simple video, made this:

Awesome slideshow man, great job on putting it together :thumbsup:DV is a special place to me and those pics brought back some fond memories of my trips there. I noticed the original Tea kettle junction sign which I recently learned has been rebuilt.

Awesome stuff. Need to get out there asap! Missing it. The roads are tore up right now which means less people out there. Temps in Saline are perfect too.

What software did you use to make the vid?

Thanks Jesse! It was fun and was good to revisit photos. It's my favorite place. :)

Thanks. Interesting to note about the sign. That's a good enough reason to plan another visit. :)

DV is special to me too. So much so, I gave my wife instructions that upon my death to incinerate me and put my ashes there, which is legal btw. She said, How far is it? I said: About six hours. She replied: That's too far! How about Anza-Borrego?!? :( Sometimes she threatens to put my ashes on the city streets of Los Angles.:mad::mad: I think that's pretty harsh!

I used Google Picasa application to import the MP3 and I quick selected about 73 photos from a 500 pic album. I haven't made one of these vids in about (6) years and wanted to see if I could still do it. It was fun. The software is nice for photos, but quite primitive for videos. I have access to the entire Adobe software suite, and want to try Premiere Pro.

I'm missing it bad too. I'm gonna try like hell to get out there this December, but it's complicated at home with the kiddos. Last December (2014) was a bit crazy. We were going to do a family camp, but kids got bad colds a few days before departure, then my wife got ill too, so some begging was involved, and finally after a few days, with her permission, I abandoned them all so I could go solo! lol . In the end everybody got over their colds at home, and I was able to add an epic trip to the record books. :D I think this year if I help her out with a plane trip to some choice place for R&R, she'll let me go.
