    Hey,
This may be a totally noob question, but I replaced both front signal bulbs yesterday, since one was clear, and the other amber. I then noticed that the bulbs come on as soon as the truck is started. They stay on too, and I can't turn them off with headlights or signals. And when the signal lever is switched, they blink off and on, but one just burnt out yesterday - a brand new bulb!! Where should I be looking - this doesn't seem normal...do I have some button pushed for something?? I noticed other tacomas on the road didn't have their bulbs on, while running around yesterday. The sockets were a little burnt too when I replaced the bulbs.
    Any advice?

Those double as your DRLs. Any burning or cracking yet. There is TSB for replacement headlights if so.

Yes; receptacles are a little scorched. How do you turn them off? I've seen a lot of tacoma's running without them on...
Also, why would I replace headlights if the running lights/turnsignals are burning out??
...THANKS for chiming in!!! I basically drove this home from the sale, and gave it to a friend to hide from my son until he graduates, so I haven't spent much/any time with it.

Not all tacomas have DTRL. Someties it can be switched off at the same location as the light switch.

On the light switch: are you sure you just didn't leave it in the DRL position? The bottom position is OFF then DRL then side markers then headlights.

As I recall, the switch at the end of the signal lever is 3 positions: Off, markers, headlights. I tried all positions, and the DRL's were on in all 3. They come on when I start the truck. When I signaled, they blinked, so if I cut the DRL power wire (assuming there are 3 wires), will they still blink?

Take it to the stealership and have them replace the head light turn signal assembly (headlights). The free replacement ends on November 10 I think.
The fact that you did not know that they are turn signal nd daylight driving is a little concerning and when SPP chimened in you questioned his advice. That's OK though just give your son a Tacoma for graduation with burnt out turn signals or listen to TW and give him a Tacoma with new headlights.
Congratulations on your sons graduation.

Thanks for stomping on me a bit; I really enjoy that - can you imagine? I've had the truck for hours, not years.
Just clarifying SPP; I hope the question spoke for itself.

Glad I could help. Drive it to the stealership and get new headlights and have them check the leafspring for the TSB on those.:smack:

Why are you concerned with turning OFF the drl? Its a safety feature, and it can lower your insurance premium having them. lf you're concerned about the burns, have them replaced like others have said.

If you take the time to look at it you will see it is all one assembly.

The older Tacoma's do not have an option to turn off the DTRL. I think that was added on the 2013 model year.

if you want to get rid of them, I have the blinker relay for non DRL. I swapped out so i can have DRL. I will ship it to you if you want it. follow directions here. it is a bit of a pain in the ass, however. I would do as others have said, get the replacement headlight assembly. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/05-drl-daytime-running-lights-install-oem.1475/

Better to have the dealership replace it for free and get new lights , than to have to pay out of pocket when your son starts driving it and they melt. It's a pretty well known issue with the lights. Plus having free brand new headlights is nice:D

    Only out temporarily.
The truck has been at a friend's since purchase to keep it out of my son's view (college graduation present). The burnout was actually a 'wiggle out". I didn't snap the bulbs all the way in, and the right front lost contact. I snapped them back in last night and they work fine. You all have explained the difference accurately with the DTL's; I've been paying attention since your comments, and some have them on, some off. So, I guess we're good for now. I'll take it to the dealer with the TSB's and seatbelt recall asap.
I also had a few dash lights out; those little boogers are hard to find! I paid $15 for 6 of them! But all is well on that front too...they showed up Saturday, and dropped right in, and Viola - Lights!!
Now, on to the horn, and replacement wheels/tires....I suppose it never ends?!
