I recently acquired a nice sized dent in my painted black OEM rear bumper (no hitch) and the insurance company is sending me a check to cover repairs. Rather than deal with the body shop and have it replaced with an identical painted black bumper, I'm considering buying a chrome bumper and installing it myself, but wanted to confirm that the chrome bumper is 100% compatible. I can't see anything that would make it incompatible, but I thought I'd pitch it to all you experts first. I've spent the past hour scouring various threads, but couldn't find anything that was helpful!

    Anybody done this?
    Any installation tips? (youtube?)
Any recommendations on who I should buy it from? (the marketplace, Amazon, ebay, other)

FYI. The chrome bumper appears to be Toyota OEM part #52151-04061

    Yes, its the same.

If you have a local Tacoma crowd........... consider you might find one used for a modest sum. Like 1/2 of dealer cost.

There are a lot of folks who change out to aftermarket armor style stuff. And there are a lot of chrome haters as well.

So another option would be getting a new black bumper, don't install it (leave yours on) then swap the new black one with a removed chrome one. I'm assuming here you found a perfect one locally to do this with. The upside could be having another set of hands to help with the swap. Which is most useful.

You shouldn't need a you tube. Look under the truck. You'll see the bolts. My bumper was all floppy installing my hitch, because there are some shared frame bolts. So no problems figuring out how to remove it!

Clearwater Bill. Thanks for the confirmation. Since I live in smalltown USA, finding someone else to swap with is kind of a longshot. I was pretty confident the primary bolts wouldn't be a problem. My biggest concern re: fit have to do with swapping out the plastic and the corner reinforcing.

Boogie3478. I'm in Northwest Indiana - ZIP 46383 (almost Chicago). How much you asking? You willing to ship?
