As I read along here, because I am truly interested, though not nearly knowledgeable enough for opinionated comment, I'm thinking how impressive it is that Canadians can have a political discussion on this forum without it becoming an absolute train wreck. Any American political discussion derails and gets locked within a few pages.

My conclusion is your system of government has much to be admired. I'm very disenchanted with ours and have been for quite a while now.

If you knew the shit we've been putting up with for the past 9 years you'd be disenfranchised too.

Harper has been running a smear campaign, using US style attack ads, twisting the rules to suit his party and making it so only his supporters can vote. Ramming through Massive omnibus bills to hide new laws he doesn't want found out till it's too late. Spy laws that give the government vast sweeping powers to spy on its citizens, the ability to strip citizens of their Canadian citizenship if they're accused (Not convicted mind you) of terrorism. (Being an activist or environmentalist is considered terrorism under Harper)

This has been our personal hell for the past 10 years.

It likely will be shortly. I have no problem with that. Neither do most people. I am concerned though about if we will be able to test for intoxication while driving or at work adequately before Pot is 100% legal.

Trudeau isn't going to change Bill C51 much. Trust me.

The attack ads went both ways. Actually, to be fair, I saw far more personal attacks launched by NDP supporters against anyone they perceived as possibly conservative then anything else.

They have tests that can be done road side already.

Which is sad. Why can't people just run on their own platform instead of childish attacks? And I hope he at least guts C-51. I don't agree to any party having that kind of power.

Except those tests are basically pass fail without a high degree of both accuracy and precision. Why would I want to get high and then possibly fail the test days later even though I have been psychologically clean for days?

I thought they were more accurate than that. Have to do some research me-thinks.

The problem is that the tests still only pick up secondary metabolites IIRC, and not the THC itself, or something like that. So, since everyone's body filters those secondaries at a different rate, it's only accurate for a certain portion of the population. Not to mention it also doesn't give a specific precise reading to quantify intoxication, which I think is necessary given how blood alcohol level related to punishment precedence has already been set in everything but stone.

Seems a lot of the population was dissatisfied with the Harper government , that much is obvious

Seems like about 10 years is the norm now for power between the Liberals and the PC's.

I wonder how long it will be until the west revolts on this Liberal government. The cycle continues...

In general the dividing issue stems from something about energy or agriculture, both of which urban BC don't care much about.
