3rd gen automatic shiftin

Hi guys

New to the site hopefully im doing this right. Anyhow just picked my 2016 trd sport up and im a little concerned on how it shifts. It seems to downshift on the slightest hill, almost like theres not enough power. Anybody else find this ??

I jsut got a 2016 Off Road. Mine seems to be really indecisive in gearing between the 70-80mph range. Constantly down/up shifting.

 

I am fairly certain what you are feeling is considered normal . The trans will downshift a lot . Its designed much like the A750e ( 2005 through 2015 ) and uses adaptive learning to learn how you drive .

I am currently gathering information on the 2016 Aisn Seiki transmission .

Gotcha. Didn't know the tranny had this ability. Hopefully it will ease up over time. I'm not very heavy footed. Steady footed, but not heavy.

 

Is the engine really adaptive? I didn't know that existed!

 

Not necessarily the engine , but the transmission is completely computer controlled and uses adaptive learning . With this said the trans learns where you like the shift points and shift feel and will memorize what you prefer . You can train it to shift aggressive or shift smooth . This can be refreshed if you dont like the shift performance and have the ability of starting fresh .

 

Ok I wasn't sure if this was normal.. I came from 4 years of diesels. Jetta, Passat, then a ram ecodiesel none of these shifted like my Tacoma. I just figured the diesel torque was the reason. I hope It gets better, I really like my taco but this shifting is driving me a little crazy

Thanks!! Just a little update. I notice the shifting nonsense is really only with the cruise on.. If you use the foot you can control the shifting alot better.. Its a shame though i like using cruise. 90% of my driving is highway.
