Ok, this is strange or maybe it's my oversensitive nose? Many times after driving my 2014 V6, I notice a faint anti-freeze smell as I walk past the front of my truck after I've park it in the garage. Long trip, short trip...doesn't matter. I've never smelled it while driving. Also, I've never seen any evidence of a leak and haven't had to add any A/F due to a low coolant level in the overflow tank. I have looked for leaks around and under the engine with a flashlight. Nothing spotted. I have noticed this since it was new and just had it serviced, but forgot to mention it to the service adviser.

Anybody have the same issue or have any ideas??

you could get the water pump tested - there's an easy pressure test to rule it out either way

mine has the same issue - I don't lose any fluid, but I can tell where it's coming from - my super charger coolant reservoir has a miniscule leak just enough to cause the smell - over 20k miles I've noticed just a few white drops around the coolant reservoir, i stopped caring.

Yup I've had the same symptoms on my 2009 4.0 for many years. Never a leak or coolant loss. Not the radiator cap as I always smell it coming from the driver side tank of the radiator.

Normal vehicle operation should push hot coolant into the overflow reservoir as the engine heats up; perhaps that's what you smell?

Thanks guys, some good ideas posted here. I will look at these a little closer. Let you know what I find. Thanks again!

My '12 Sport did this, and my new '15 OR does it. Never see any fluid, never an overheating issue in either truck.

Great topic. I noticed coolant smell coming from my front end in my 2014. Had dealer perform pressure test and found no leaks.

I noticed the same thing with my '14. Coolant level has not changed and the temp is always in the same range while driving. I find it odd, but will not be losing any sleep over this. If I could see evidence of a leak I would take it in.

It's normal. These trucks are notoriously noisy, and smelly of coolant due to the kind that Toyota uses, usually the overflow bottle is always a bit vented to prevent excess pressure build up. That is the reason for the mild smell. Leave it be, and don't worry about it.

I notice the same exact thing with my '13 V6. Coolant level is fine, no indication of any leaks, oil is clean. Now that I know others have the same issue, I'm not worrying about it. Just a Tacoma quirk.

Mine is the same. I have 35k miles now and have noticed it for the life of the truck. Never noticed any obvious leak.

Ditto on my 15 TRD OR. Noticed it not long after purchase. Very faint smell when walking past the front and no signs any where. Assumed it was from overflow tank vent?

I also noticed that smell, while walking past the front of my truck.

I wasn't in the inside of the cab; so heater core was ruled out.

Nothing leaking, and I checked everything multiple times.

    No coolant loss.

I had to conclude it was just vapor, coming out of the overflow tank. But not actually vapor; just the smell of it.
