I know this because I painted the same emblem 4 times.
    I did my 2007 4 times; light grit, heavy, grit, super-duper primer...it didn't matter.

I'm sure most 2016 Tacoma owners are leaving the grille as is.

Here is what I had to go through for prep. The grill could be removed, but I didn't want to bother. I put card board and newspaper behind the grill. This took about 3 hours, I taped inbetween every grill slot, around emblems etc, very tedious. Even worse to pull off, because there was so many small pieces of tape to accommodate the curves.image.jpg

wow, you really did a good job of taping, I saw a video on youtube about removing the grille and it didn't seem that bad, to leave it on and painting it always leaves a chance of over spray..

I love the look but I think I'll take the grill off, sand the "chrome", prime, paint, and hit it with clear. Definitely not reversible like the plasti-dip but I like the look so I won't be reversing it and it should last longer and hold up better.

Would LINE-X work for this? I think that might be cool.

It's all one piece, and needs to be taped. Part of the reason it was such a pain.

Someone on another thread confirmed that the chrome around the outside does indeed come off separate.
