One of the things I do not like about newer vehicles in general is the higher amount of door material and lower profile of window glass (presumably crash or safety related). For example, in sitting in the driver seat of a newer vehicle, it tends to have a higher amount of door panel from the base of the seat until the base of the window glass begins (near one's left shoulder), and sometimes the height of the window itself is shortener. The net effect is for a short person to feel a bit claustrophobic compared to older cars (whose lower door panel height made it easier to rest a left arm on and see out of).

We've had a 2005 Tacoma and are trying to decide between a 2015 and 2016 Tacoma, and these dimensions are important to the wife. We don't live near a dealer, so are there any 2016 owners out there who could take a measurement from the edge of the seat to where the base of the side window begins (so the amount of door material from seat to window starting), and then another measure of the actual window height itself?

Also, any feedback in general from new 2016 owners on the ride seat comfort and view compared to your second generation?

    Thanks!

I don't think there is a change in that measurement. I had a 15 and now a 16 and the seat/window distance feels exactly the same. I find the seats nearly the same as the 15 and comfortable but I will have them covered with leatherette. (Seat Covers for the 15 did NOT fit the 16. Seatbacks are thicker bolsters are more defined.

The view over the hood of the Sport is challenging at first, But the scoop breaks up the extra long hood.

Backing up I don't use mirrors or anything but the rear view camera. IT's very good on the 7" screen

I don't cover the rear seats as I keep them down 99% of the time and use the back for Costco runs and in cab storage and cargo.
