STAND Corrected...NOT Clucking BUT...Clanking metal hitting metal...

Hello everyone, Thanks for this forum...

Bought my 2004 Tacoma prerunner new, one owner vehicle...

I have an issue with the clanking noise when I go forward or backward and brake hard.
I just replaced the whole front strut assembly over a month ago and now I hear this noise.
My friend checked, and he thinks it is the lower and upper control arm bushings...
Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated...
    Thanks

Could be axle warp, it is very common on these trucks. Leaf springs could be weak and they twist when accelerating and braking. How many miles is on your truck?

118,000 miles...I hear it in the front of the truck very loud...Could it be the control arm bushings?

i have a similar issue. sound is coming form my driveshaft. i got under my truck with the e-brake on and pushed the truck forward and back. the sound came form the driveshaft. not the ujoints or carier. weird.

im suspecting it could be the mounts.

So when I put it in drive and go forward and then hit the brake it clanks...when I put it in reverse and hit the gas it clanks.
But if it already clanked in drive it will not clank anymore unless something shifts or I put it in Reverse then it will...
I hope this will help more in solving my issue.

Most likely the rear most u-joint is toast. BUT if you're going to replace that one, might as well replace the trans/DS u-joint as well.

    We finally figured it out....
It is the control arm bushings upper and lower are shifting when hitting the brakes only hard either forward or backwards.
Where is the best place and prices to get upper and lower arm bushings...
    Urethane or stock bushings ?

    And thanks for the help...

I have a full set upper & lower rubber, fit 95 to 2004 Tacoma 4x4, (OEM) style, not poly, both sides that I did not use because mine were still good (160k miles). Look to be very good quality that I'll sell you for $100 shipped. Cost me $125 ($70 for lower, $55 for uppers). Email me for more info or pictures. jed.33@hotmail.com
