Doing the maths on MSRP prices it's a big advantage to buy a truck in the Great White North and export. Any of you financially astute cash purchasers planning on this? Not sure if Toyota Canada is able to sell to you, but in 6 months or so there should be demo's, the odd used truck showing up. $1 USD will get you $1.32 CAD right now..

And then the nightmare of getting warranty/TSB work in the states with a Canadian truck.

You can be sure that Toyota Canada will not permit the sale of new trucks to Americans, as Toyota USA will not permit the sale of new trucks to Canadians. They gotta protect their turf. Free trade is for corporations, not the the little guy. When the US and CDN $$ were at par not too long ago, lots of Canadians went south of the border to buy vehicles and the OEM's reacted quickly by saying no warranty coverage for US purchased vehicles in Canada.

The problem in buying new in Canada is you'll have to pay the sales tax, and the freight they charge in Canada is double the US freight on just about any vehicle from any brand. The lowest sales tax is 5% (federal sales tax, there is no provincial sales tax) and it's in Alberta. All other provinces have a sales tax that ranges between 12 to 15% (combining the 5% federal sales tax plus provincial sales tax). Buying for export exempts you from sales tax, but not if the OEM has a no export rule on new vehicles. Heck, when I purchased my wife's Honda Odyssey back in 1999, I had to sign a document that I will not export this vehicle to the US.

As for DOT / EPA compliance, Canadian vehicles would be compliant. For Canadians importing a vehicle from the US, the only requirements are daytime running lights that cannot be turned off, electronic immobilizer, and km/h on the speedo. Emissions standards are the same on both sides of the border; VW is no longer selling TDI's in Canada! :)

It has it's pluses and minuses, I'd rather buy (again) in the surrounding areas where I live.
