This is the second week we have had the 2016 Tacoma in Canada and I was finally able to take one for a spin.

The test drive was a DCLB Sport upgrade with an MRSP of 42,400. (Over 46,000 after taxes)

Here is my take on the new truck:

    Pro:
Truck was very quiet, louder engine outside the vehicle, but could barely hear it inside.

Solid feel. My 2013 Limited seems to have a less controlled ride, while the 2016 felt very buttoned down. Definitely a smoother less roll in corners. Feels a lot better.

Loved some of the new features: auto up/down windows, push start, moonroof.

    Great new gauge setup.

    Now a few cons:

Transmission did shift more than I am used to. The truck did have 93km on it so the tranny hasn't learned driving yet. It was smooth though and not overly annoying.

Seats seemed even lower than my 2013, which is not pleasant. Many of want to be higher, and the seats just seemed slightly lower which was annoying.

All black interior. Even with 93km's the interior seemed more dusty than my 2013. The gray is more appealing to me than all black. This would be a deal breaker if I was serious.

Backup camera. I must be very used to the camera in the rear view, but I find it way more convenient there than in the radio, as you should be looking at the mirrors when you are backing up, not the dash. I would surely learn to adjust but I do love my mirror backup camera.

    General notes:
Overall the engine seemed to have the same power as my old 4.0.

If they were willing to do a straight trade my limited for a sport I would do it, but I wouldn't pay the ridiculous price increase we have seen in Canada, for a truck that feels just a little better than my current truck.

It's to bad Toyota didn't give Canada any other interior colours than all black. I wish we had a gray option like the 2015 Tacoma.

Thanks for the review. Your observations seem to be pretty much in line with the prevailing thoughts here in the states.

Agree on the price thing. I picked up my new 2012 TRD Sport in Dec 2013 for 10k less than what they are asking for it now
