It is kinda like seeing bigfoot. I found a 2001 4door with MANUAL tranny on Craigslist.

I would love to do this conversion as i hate automatics but need 4 doors for the family.
    Kudos to him.

Is there such a thing as a "4x4 PreRunner"?

i missed that "prerunner" title on the first look.
If one is swapping the auto for a manual and wants a 4x4 does one save money buying the prerunner? Likely so. He indeed changed the tranny and did not put a 4door cab on a extended cab manual. I had a brief email correspondence with him.

Also says salvage title, that things been totaled

Looks pretty obvious to me, was a prerunner with an automatic like all double cabs, then somebody did a 4wd conversion with a r-150 manual transmission

One can never have too many light bars.
That or it has had part of the frame replaced which would be very likely in a 15 year old truck in Montana.

From an accident that totaled it?

If it was just a frame rust issue they wouldn't have salvaged it.

What would the frame have to do with it?

Manual transmissions didn't come on double cab

If anything it'd be a cab and bed swap onto an extended cab frame with a 4wd and manual transmission drivetrain

That actually makes my brain hurt trying to consider why a frame swap is relevant

wasn't me... out here in SoCal, Dang Chiem did a swap... just blanked out if he was dcab or extended... general consensus in the early years was that it wasn't worth the cost and once the 2nd gen came out with that option, nobody really bothered to do the conversion...

Yes. That is how i was going to do it if i had the cash. Physically i think this way is more work than just swapping a tranny but i felt it was safer in the long run because of the unpredictable computer control issues I would cause if i just slapped a manual trans on a auto truck.
I so miss the days when i could work on a automobile and not worry about a computer.

The seller said:"I even retained the auto ECU." So maybe I will consider this someday. Based on a sample of 1. ;)

If i was going to build a frankintruck I too would be using totaled or salvaged trucks to do it.

They'll total it from hail damage. Happened to my buddy's 4Runner.

Yeah, it doesn't take much to total a vehicle these days. especially an old one.

I'm looking for a totaled Dcab to swap on my extended cab frame now. I wanted a 5 speed and didn't think about having kids when I bought my truck 10 years ago. The only thing I am unsure about is swapping the VIN from my truck to the new cab. I think you can cut your vin out of the old cab and take to toyota and they will print you a new sticker for the door jam.
