Hey everyone, I've been looking for a decent tacoma for a few months now and think I may have found it!!! It's a 2001 white extended cab 4x4 5spd in real nice condition, one owner, with 171k miles on it for $11k... what do you guys think? Is 11k too much$$$

I had a 2003 trd dbl cab for 5 years, sold it, then bought my 2010 trd sport dbl cab. I had that truck for 5 years, sold it and bought a 2014 T4R which I love and is great with the fam but I have come to the conclusion that we need a truck again!

Please let me know what you guys think about the 2001 taco. I've bugged my buddies and poor wife to death about it, lol.

Well how does the price compare with what your looking at??

The thing with that mileage your getting real close to a timing belt if you follow the normal schedule.

    Time for a new clutch??

    Lower Ball joints maybe ??

Has the Horsetrading begun after all $11,000.00 is just the asking price time to start picking the truck apart

What does your poor wife think to much ??

She just agrees with you to shut you up ??

What are you planning on doing with the truck? Off-road vehicle, camping exploring etc?

More then just a timing belt will need to be changed.

11k seems high for that mileage and an extended cab

I'm with @49erfan. $11k seems way too high unless it has a ton of aftermarket accessories and is in mint condition.

if it is in really good condition and has been well taken care of then $11k is fair, condition is everything.

if its beat up or "shows its age" then $10k is a fairer price for it but in the end its what the selling market says its worth and many times they sell for more then fair value so if you like it and you want it then buy it, maybe its not the best deal but its certainly not the worst deal either

Sorry for a late response guys, and thanks to those who responded! The seller ended up being an asshole so I said screw it! 11k was a high price for what it was. So I ended up finding a damn near perfect 95 extended cab pickup (not a taco) 4x4 v6 5spd 178k miles. It was babied by the previous 2 owners. Not a single rip, stain, or tear in the interior. It has a couple small dings here and there but your cant see them unless you stare at it for hours like I have been doin, lol. The head gasket was replaced on the 3.0 motor back in 98 during the toyota recall, so I don't have to worry about it. The guy I bought it from was a super cool older fella all about Toyotas. I purchased it for $5,600.

    I like that pickup.

In answer to the original question, I can offer one hard data point, also in California: I just bought a 2001 Xtracab 4x4 V6 TRD SR5 for $8600. 174k miles, one owner, daily driver, never off road (didn't really know what the locker was for), bad clear coat on the roof and a little on the hood, new BFGs, recent brakes. However, it was overdue for another timing belt (done once at 60k).

After bringing all maintenance up to date, and 4 new shocks, I have about $10k in it. I think that's fair enough, if not exactly a screamingly good deal.

I got the exact same truck. But milage was at 114k. Bad roof clear coat, and two spots on hood. 2001, 4x4, TRD, extracab, everything is the same. But I paid 9k because of the lower milage, and some upgrades that were already on the truck. I could've talked him down lower, but it was one of the few negotiations I've ever done, and I was nervous. :anonymous:

congrats, you got a great truck there, only negative is the 3.0 engines were kinda weak but it is what it is and doesn't matter much in the long run. that truck should last you another 15 years :jellydance::kona::taco::locked::drunk:

Super clean, I suggest having an exhaust shop tack weld your cat converter. Thats an easy target

Thanks for the advice! It was stolen once already. The previous owner had it replaced and had it welded in. also installed a flowmaster exhaust system!
