VMS Oil Catch Can Install

This is the catch can that I bought.

I also re-threaded and placed this valve on the bottom with 1/8 clear tube so that I could drain it. Routed the tube down the frame to drip into a can placed on the ground.

helpful tips:

• Buy 3/8" ID high pressure fuel line for this to work.
  • DO NOT use regular fuel line, or it will collapse and cause your engine seals to fail prematurely.
• An important note on the install of the VMS can. With the internal hose that goes through the baffles, I trimmed it up another 1-1/2" to go through just the lowest baffle. I found that the tube was too low and when the oil starts to collect, the longer hose which sat near the bottom of the can, would froth up the oil.
  
  Edit: Also this should go without saying, Unless you are running the supercharger, the top filter does not get used. Why? because the ECM monitors the closed PCV system pressure and will kick a CEL when the system becomes "OPEN".
• Because the PCV system is a closed loop. if there is a leak between the crank case and the intake manifold the ECM will kick a Check engine light. Just buy new high pressure fuel line and run this oil catch can in-line and plug the top with the "filter plug". A naturally aspirated engine intake works to equalize the pressures in the crank case by pulling from the intake between the throttle body and valve train.
  
  on a SC or forced induction engine the intake is now pressurized and if you were to keep the system closed you would over pressurize the crank case and blow seals.
  • please note that depending on your SC setup the PCV system might be routed a different way. please consult your SC manufacturer or manuals for further information.
  • A good ground rule might be to think of the PCV system as being under vacuum from the naturally aspirated engine. SC engines could get away with just venting the PCV system to atmosphere (filter) and plugging the outlet on the can.
• SNIP: non supercharged=no filter
  supercharged=use filter

So just to clarify, On a supercharged engine, everything is still routed the same way, you just use the filter on top instead of the plug?

 

No, you have the plug, otherwise it will pull vacuum from the outside causing a lean condition. Use the plug.

Ya, if the upper connection was after the SC, then yes. Ours is before the blower. I think? That sounds right?

Hehe, now I'm confused. If it's not a Roots type blower and the outlet was after the SC then you'd need the filter? I think?

Well shit. So, I might have to pull the Supercharger just to get access to the ports for this install lol. Shinning a flashlight I can baaaarely see the tube going into the engine...can't even get a hand back there. So that sucks. Plus I forgot about the Supercharger reservoir in the way, and have no where to mount the catch can. Might have to look into mounting it somewhere else in the engine bay have long tubes tastefully routed to it

 

if your PCV system pulls before your supercharger then it'll be under suction and you'll need to use the filter plug.

I know! It's a bitch to get to. The stock clamps that Yota uses are weak, you can pull the hose right off. I used thick wall fuel line and the same clamp and was able to just push it on the fitting. It's not high vacuum or pressure so it should be just fine like that. That's what foampile told me.
