Didn't know that the nuts and bolts have to be re-torqued at 30,000 miles, but I'm not even at 30,000 kms and the bolts were loose over a year ago.

I think it was caused by these being under-torqued,

...also re-torqued the cab mounts though.

This is not just for u bolts, it's for any critical, federally related torque. Even sometimes on a non critical joint if it's prone to being forgotten or covered up before inspection can check it.
If I remember its around 90. I'll verify for sure when I go back.
You should check the u bolts with each tire rotation and loctite them.

What's with Toyota... they want me to bring my truck in every 8,000kms to re-torgue the propeller shaft bolts as part of the reg. mtce...

Why wouldn't they just drill the bolt end and put in a wire to secure it, or a washer with the "bend-up_ flange ,....

I think they just put that crap on the mtce. schedule to make it look like they do a lot for you...!!

I never torqued my '06's nuts.... Oh well..

    Is this a test?
Sienna is a unibody and has coil springs that are compressed on chassis line.

Are they standard? As far as I knew every bolt used was metric with the exception of the seatbelt bolts.

No it's not a test, in you're first post , you explained the process on the assem. line with torque gun & alarms, I was wondering what was up with torque values on Tacoma U bolts...

The recommended torque for the U-bolts on the 2016 is 52 ft-lbs.
The recommended torque for the U-bolts on the 2015 is 37 ft-lbs.

They are the same hardware for both.

In case you missed it : 1st gen/2nd gen/3rd gen all use same hardware... Up to 2004 (end of 1st gens) Torque value was 90ft.lbs, in 2005 (first production year for 2nd gen) FSM states 37ft.lbs

Good to know Jeff, thanks. Considering everything read, I'm going with 55 ft lbs and calling it good; they were below 40 upon checking. I will check again in a few months.

Im just saying the bolts didn't leave the factory loose, what ever the torques are supposed to be.
The springs just settled after some miles. I plan on checking mine too. Wonder if they check them with the scheduled oil changes/ maintenance?

Yes, quoted myself, you guys can tighten them to whatever you think is safe,if you believe Toyota's spec to be correct more power to you, myself , I stand by what I've said all along & I'll leave it at that...

Just checked mine on my 2015, they were all about 37ft.lbs - 40ft.lbs. I tightened them all to around 60ft.lbs.

& I'm saying I've been under about 200 of your Tacomas (2nd gens) some brand spanking new & literally all had extremely loose nuts, a lot of them not even 37ft.lbs, watch that short vid i posted , that wasn't BS, they were that loose...It HAD to leave the assem. line that way
