Cherry bombs were cool back in the 70s, on large displacement V8's. I ran a pair on my 82 Camaro with true dual exhaust. They sounded great, but it was a fairly hopped up motor. (400 HP small block) But heres the thing...I was running a truly custom (home made) exhaust system.
Im pretty sure you are going to have to chop and butcher your existing system too. Also, dont forget what kind of repercussions this may have with engine management. (you could possibly lean out the mixture or mess with the computer system.....Im not sure, as I only do performance work on old school cars)
Honestly, my opinion (and its just an opinion) is that glass packs on a import truck sounds cheesy.

I know a friend who had one on his 1st gen.
    It sounds okay.

If you wanna get rid of the TRD one I'll trade you my stock one and throw some money your way.

    Let me know.

    Bone Stock.Why mess with perfection?Except...
Anyone old enough to remember the sound of a V8 with headers and glass packs will never be impressed with the sound of anything less. If it's not a V8, don't waste your money trying to make it sound good, because It Never Will.

Glass packs were not just limited to V8's and not ghetto. got to hang with the original hot rodders and found out they all ran them. My 56 with a straight six had one- sounded good. As with any aftermarket market muffler length/size and diameter change the sound. You may find that a long 22"-26" in a 2 inch or maybe 2 1/4 could give a good sound for you....or not. note they flow both ways but one uses the baffles better thatn the other. Another thing is glass packs are cheap, you remove the muffler and tail pipe and test fit one. You like it then get that TRD tail pipe attached it will be a tad quieter with the tail pipe installed. Fun memory from my youth we slapped a one on a datsun 510 that we hopped up and turned the exhaust out after the door. It was short and large diameter- that car sounded like a sport bike especially with the 5 speed. I say give it a go if your TRD system breaks apart like I think it wont be no big deal to try.

Lol yeah I searched high and low, day and night. Then I finally came up with that. I'm never going to get the sound I want/wish it's just a v6 tacoma sound you all know.

OP I'd say keep that TRD exhaust or go to some tacoma meets and see/hear what they have that you will like.
