The brakes on my 06 Tacoma, Base, Access Cab, RWD, 2.7L. are single piston and don't have the access shown on all the examples I have been able to find on line. Pads supplied by the parts store appear to identical to what I am replacing. I took the caliper off and replaced the passenger side without any problem, but the driver's side doesn't seem to want to fit over the rotor with the new pads. Any insights?

Use a C Clamp or a large pair of Water Pump pliers to squeeze the piston back in. Just make sure you do not overflow the brake fluid tank as that is where the fluid is going when you squeeze the piston back.

Thanks, Jimmy. That's what we ended up doing. One side went really easy, but we were stymied at first in the other by the fact that there are two movable parts. On the second side, unlike the first, both needed to be retracted, but we had already put the first side back together and weren't able to compare the two directly. And no pictures anywhere ion the web that I could find of the single piston style calipers.
