Yeah, the weight increase isn't all that substantial with the huge gain of strength and rigidity. The steel version weighs double IIRC. With the reinstall of the OEM tailgate cover it is a nice, heavy tailgate - almost like a real truck. :D

Yeah, I think I first heard of this (and didn't quite understnad it) when Pete mentioned it on his. Didn't really care about this sort of stupid minutia with my straight-tailgate, non-Entune, J-stick jalopy.

    1. I'll post pics later. Basically, take of the top plastic cap, and at either end of the top of the tailgate are 2 torx 30 panheads stickgin up quite a bit, a little more than the gap available under the Relentless (RTP, not gonna keep spelling this fucker out). This takes up all the play you need to maneuver the RTP along and over that bulge in the tailgate.

    2. The other people in my meeting group tell me it's totally normal.

    :rain:

BTW, no mall control was used in the making of this fun ^^^

No, this is for where everything is flat and square now where the door glass meets the RTP. The door needs to close farther, there will be scant clearance. I have been searching for days and nights.

I haven't removed the current weatherstrip. I have no idea how it may be adhered, and don't want to get into a mess right not at the beginning of the rainy (I hope) season. If I do a bulb type, I am not sure what thickness I need. Also, I think it might tend to catch water where the bulb wraps under and meets the flat top of the RTP if the truck is on level ground or pointed downslope a bit ( bit hard to tell without specific measurements, or perhaps even some trial and error). Lastly, I don't think it would look very clean.

I've had the idea of a Z seal or Z bar in my head, just like one uses for flashing on a house. I would even do plain aluminum in a Z profile if I could find something that would work at the right angles.

I've been eyeballing this stuff, and it might work great, but it seems a bit small. Price is right, and I could have replacement stock on hand for a few decades on the cheap. This is the only thing even remotely close to what I envisioned that I could find on line.

That other rubber seal I posted above looks pretty slick, but the critical thickness of the slot where the glass would slip in is unkown. I need to take some measurements and make some calls.

I hope the current setup keeps everything from getting wet until the respray (in spring?) when I dismantle all the window and other stuff anyway. THat will be the major TLC time while I have it down on sawhorses.

What was the heavy duty weatherstripping tape that was just recently discussed somewhere on TW? I think @DoorDing mentioned it to someone.

Well I think I have seen every kind of tape and seal there is on the internet recently, scoured all the cap/shell part sites, etc. It is just a very specialized kinda application.
I also need to go hit up the RV repair joints nearby on the weekend. They might have some secret shit.

Damn. I can swear there was a guy recently asking about similar issues and this specific tape was recommended by a half dozen members as the tape for that use.

    Never mind then. :bananadead:

My window seal will need replacing. There is also a small 1.5" or so piece of rubber on each side of the window pane that are beginning to fall off. One side was all cattywampus and caused the powdercoat on my RTP to rub off all the way to the aluminum. :(

Yeah, my Supersport was doing something similar. The rubber strip on the inside bottom of the door was beginning to separate, and the top of the tailgate paint was worn through to bare metal. And the corners at either end where everything comes together can generally be a fucking pain.
