I'm thinking about getting a fj, in my searching I've found several people saying the transmission in the 07' having issues, the one I'm looking at is the 6 speed

That being said anything specific to look for in a used 07 fj?

The early FJ's had an issue with the inner fender cracking and buckling when they are beat on off road. Check just forward of the hood strut mounts on both sides in the engine bay.

Damn that looks like a clusterfuck to repair, I thought I was in the clear getting the 6 speed due to the auto Trans problem

The automatic transmissions on FJ's can have problems if they have not been maintained. Look up "FJ Cruiser transmission shudder". If the fluid is changed regularly, they general don't have any problems. I haven't heard of any real problems with manual transmissions. The fender cracking talked about above, seem to only happen in '07 models with early production dates, and ones that have been really ridden hard. If you are looking at a '07, get the one with the latest production date that you can find. Try to get one with the rear locker and ATRAC, they will go almost anywhere with these options. Not to steer you away for this forum, but check out the FJCruiserForum.com, it's a great resource with very knowledgeable people.

The earlier years had the weaker 8.0 rear end that had R&P breakage, the later years went to the 8.2 which, while not sounding much bigger, was beefier where it needed to be.
