    Most people running a 285 on a 16" wheel have 285/75r16. 70 series tires are a 33" tire on 17" wheels.

You're going to have a hell of a time trying to find a tire in 285/70/16. A more common size is 285/75/16.

I found a nitto trail grappler in a 285/70/16 on Amazon, they've been carrying them for awhile now. Comes out to be a 31.7x11.3

Its funny you mentioned the Nitto Trail Grappler in 285/70/16. Out of curiosity when I first read the tire size you posted, that tire was only one in that size I could find on Tire Rack, Discount Tire, and Amazon. So unless you want that specific tire, I will echo what I said before.

That size is pretty much the same as a 265/75, just a little wider, like half an inch. There's more choices in the 265. But it's your truck

I'm gonna go with the trail grapplers, had them on my 2003 tundra and loved em. Just wanting to see if they look small in a 285 70 16 on a 3 inch lifted tacoma

I'd love the little bit wider, had 265/75/16 on my last 3Rd gen 4runner and they looked a little skinny with a 3 inch lift, but still would be better than my stock size now

Do you guys know if they would work on a 16x8 rim with 4.5 backspace without having to add spacers? Thanks for the reply's

Not sure on that because I'm stock with 265s but it shouldn't. Someone else will have to answer that one

your only guarantee is that 265/75R16's will work on stock offset and sized rims... beyond that it may or may not work.

IMO 8in wide is too wide for a 265. its nice to have some bulge to protect the rims and not pop a bead.

From everything I've observed on trucks I work on for other folks, the issues that result in tire rub are as much, if not MORE to do with tire width than with tire height. With either wheel spacers OR offset wheels, when you move the tire away from rubbing the upper control arms, you end up with a wider arc when wheels are turned...and closer to the cab mount when at full lock turn.

I've got 265/75/r16 Duratracs on my 2011 Tacoma. Front end is lifted 2-5/8" above what it was stock. Then I used 1" Bora wheel spacers. Wheels are stock TRD Off Road 16". These tires cleared with flying colors in stock trim. When I lifted it, the tires cleared even better. Then I put the spacers on to get a better stance (and to clear 285/75/r16's if I decided to go that route) Once I had the spacers on, the 265's come very close to the cab mount. They don't rub, and I can't make 'em rub....but they're close. Wider tires need either offset wheels or spacers to clear UCA's. IMHO, you won't make any significant clearance gain by using a 285/70/r16.....

Ok so you think I'd have to trim with that tire wheel combo then?

It's possible they won't rub if you stay on flat parking lots, etc....But, If you take it off road or do anything that'll flex the suspension, and you ever happen to have the front wheels turned to full lock, I think you're gonna rub the cab mount. Just my opinion though. Hopefully someone here has the same exact combination and can tell you for certain.

Hmmm ok I never thought of the blow out issue. Maybe I'll go with the 275/70/17 after all. Thanks! Now to find the right wheel, I was gonna get the method standards 16x8 hopefully they make it in a 17"
