New from Prairieville, Louisiana

Ordered my 2016 Black TRD Sport DCSB first week of October. Got it yesterday. Traded a 2014 Black TSS Tacoma. Had the dealer (Price LeBlanc) put on my BFG Rugged Terrain tires (didn't like the Toyo street tires that were on it.) Spent all day putting on my bed cover, bull bar and painting grill. Anyway, I love the truck! Drove about 40 mile round trip today and the interior is nice, love the push button start, ride is great and power still there.

That's the best paint job I've seen on th grill yet. I love the chrome personally, but on a black truck that looks just sick!

The only thing that would make that truck perfect is a long bed.

 

Thanks! I took my time and taped off everything, then used Krylon gloss black (about 5 coats). I was worried about the humidity since it was raining today, but I stayed in the garage and it came out great! This is how Toyota should have made them.

 

You need to drop pics of it in the big 2016 thread, and showcase that grill in some of the grill threads.

I may use that method to add some flair when Captain Ameritruck finally shows up.

 

What brand bull bar is that? I've been looking but haven't been able to find any yet...

My wife bought my son and me bull bars on Amazon about a year and a half ago. (he has a black 2007 DCSB Prerunner Tacoma). I don't remember the brand, but they were only about $150 each. I took mine off of my 2014 hoping it would fit on my new truck. I had to bolt it on with 1 bolt (really tight) then put a large washer on the second bolt to help hold it in place. I also had to cut two 1/4" grooves in my lower black plastic piece (that piece below the bumper) to fit the bracers to the frame. I could've kept it completely off the truck, but I thought it looked better with it. The bull bar is pretty sturdy on there, I couldn't move it. But the brackets just need about 1-2 inches added for the 2016's or you could add a piece of 1/4" steel yourself and drill new holes.


I was also surprised my bed cover fit pretty nice too! Less money I have to spend.

Color matching the grille surround changes the entire look of the truck!
Hopefully all this rain won't leave too many spots on your fresh paint.

 

Yep, I agree. This was yesterday when I got it.

And I let the paint dry in the garage before driving out in the rain tonight, so it didn't get any spots. Also, I lightly sanded the chrome before I painted so it would stick well.
I kept my 2014 mud flaps too, but they wouldn't fit. I'm gonna get some generic ones from autozone until I can get the OEM ones when they are available. I tried to order it with them but they said that they weren't available. So I kept mine hoping they might fit.

 

Subtle changes are the most effective in my opinion.

Love the old school raised white letter tires and the grill is great.

Any thoughts if plastidip would hold up better to rock chips versus the paint? I painted the chrome grill trim on a gen2 with paint and found myself constantly touching up rock chips on the painted grill section even though I used a Krylon paint for plastic

 

I think either one is gonna chip some. But I think the gloss black looks more like factory done than the flat black look of plastidip. We shall see how long it lasts before I get rock chips.

And yes I am old school. I'm 47. The guy at the dealership said the same thing about my tires. But that's how they came on my 2014 truck and I liked it. I plastidipped them.
