I feel like that definitely runs the risk of dry rotting your tires

How old are you? LOL! We did that way back in the '60's (and earlier) before Armor All came out! It's not a bad plan UNLESS you lived on a gravel road.......

I use Armorall's Extreme tire shine in an spray can. Spray on, let rest for 15 minutes. Gives it a wet look for weeks, and stays on the tire where it belongs. I never get residue on the side of the truck

You are aware your brake hydraulics are full of rubber parts, right?

Very. At least in the eyes of most of the kids around here. :)

Yes, I was messing with muscle cars in the 60's.

Then don't drive right after spraying it!
Shouldn't take a brain surgeon to realize it needs to dry.

Dealer put some of that wet looking shit on the tires when I picked up the new truck. I had them take it off. I like 303 for a more new tire look.

I am the owner of myshinycar.com, the website where I try to focus about tire maintainance. Just recently I made a post about the harmfulness of tire shine. When I was looking on debates on internet I decided to make a post about that.
    To sum up:
It is not harmful for the tire if you do it right. Water-based dressings should be used unless you do not plan to use tire much longer. There are many dangerous oils especially in solvent based products. But some (usually expensive) solvent based products are good and they can be used!

Hope this will help some of you. If you are looking for some detailed information, feel free to review the article. Also if you disagree with anything I have writen, I'd be happy to discuss it.

303 or Meguires #40. Makes the tires black, not shiny.

Nobody uses Black Magic? It's spray-on and my tires are still pretty good looking, doesn't need wiping off and not too shiny either. My buddy who worked at a detailing shop swears on it

    Yes.
I love the shiny tire clean truck look. I'm an armor all extreme shine fan. That stuff lasts for weeks. Look at how good it looked even after some dirty play on my old ranger
