So I pulled out the two black storage bins today on my 2016 TRD Off-road and I discovered there are two cab vents cut into the back wall of the cab. My plan was in to install a sub and amp back there but much to my surprise these showed up out of nowhere. Anybody know what they might be for? The look like they have a little rubber flapper but I hate the idea that a little rubber piece is all that stands between the outside and my Audison amp.

These weren't on the 2015, so obviously they added them for something. So far I've not been able to find anybody who knows anything about them. Any ideas?

I guess my question would be do they ever let water in? I figured they had something to do with cabin pressure. I've been abel to work my sub box around them but I would hate to get water back there. Thanks for the reply.

They should be fine. I had these on my 2014 and my 2015. It's actually quite common in a lot of trucks. The rubber flaps are all angled downward and away from the cab. With the exception of going deep sea diving in your truck or going flatbed and removing the bed, there really isn't any way for water to get in there.

Like they said, these were a necessity on this year's model. They made the 16s a lot more air tight and quiet, but that brings about problems when shutting doors and windows. You'd notice that every time you tried to shut the door, it would stay ajar due to the air pressure. I have this in my 14 subaru impreza and its a serious annoyance. No one can ever shut the passenger door properly without slamming the shit out of it and the trunk is a pain in the ass as well…

All cars and trucks have vents. No they do not leak and yes you can still put your subs in.

They regulate you cab pressure. Like mentioned before when closing doors when air is on. You can block them a bit but don't seal them off.

Thanks guys. It's a bit more work to box around them, but better than having an issue with the doors closing.

You wouldn't happen to have the specs for your sub box would you?

Mike Sweers calls them quarter vents. (see vid below at time 6:30).

I remember my 2010 Tacoma double cab had one "quarter vent" located on the passenger side. I remember noticing that air would blow out of this vent if you had your blower/fan running with windows up doors closed and recirculation turned off. Air has to go out somewhere.

Mike mentions the use of a second vent to reduce the effort required to close the doors on the 2016 model.
