my buddy took his 15 taco thru a framers field and some water not sure how deep.
truck covered in mud tho. was in 4hi and parked it. next morning he switched out it out of 4h and the 4wd light was flashing. its currently in 2wd but the lights are going crazy. tried hitting the actuators and nothing happened. tried undoing the batt same thing.
we thinking that maybe he fried the front actuator.
    any ideas

Id be willing to bet the front actuator. I had the same issue before. If i turned off the truck and then turned the switch to H2, followed by turning on the truck it would kick back to H2. But it wouldnt engage h4 again except on occasion when the light would constantly flash therefore not letting it switch back to H2 or L4.

Heres where i bought my replacement actuator

Yea common problem. Mine had the same issues no matter what. Try turning off the truck with the switch on H2. Let it sit a few minutes then restart it, it may realize its in H2 at that point. But needs replacing

I'mwilling to bet you he didn't wash off his truck after the fact. I know a guy who butied his Tundra brand new and his alternator went out. Apparently what happened is he got mud lodged in the actual alternator itself so the internal brushes were not making electrical current, he ended up washing it all off and it worked good as new again. Lol.

These reasons coupled with frame rust are exactly why I do not go mudding anymore.

I see this all the time. Seriously, I've called like 3 or 4 people in the past year to talk them through getting it out. Every snow storm, same thing. Don't touch it and get the shop look at it. 95% of the time it's driver error and if it's confused they should be able to just drive it and work the system free. There is a set procedure and you cannot skip a step or it does stuff like this. Don't start replacing parts because you could create a worse issue. Plus it's under warrantee. Let them take care of it.

And actuators go out too...the front one being notorious for it. Doesnt mean anyone is trying to switch it wrong. I knew mine was wrng with these exact symptoms, replaced it and havent had a single issue since. Id guarantee there is water in the actuator and the circuity is ruined.

I'm not saying they don't go out. Im saying don't throw a part at it. Plus it's under warr.
